Passlock System Bypass - GM THRASH: I had something like this on an 89 Firebird with the little chip in the key and cuz I was eliminating the whole computer and everything to put in a 383 Stroker small block Chevy I was able to figure out the active wire that clicked the security relay to the unlock the starter and just snipped one wire and hook it to ground and that disabled it.

Eric I have a 2000 BMW Z3 roadster. runs great but I have the pesky DSC light on. I had a bad wheel speed sensor, replaced it. dsc light used to come on at start up and stay on, now when I start it, the DSC light is off. the DSC light now comes on and stays on when I drive it and reach abt 20 mph. very consistently. I bought the plug adapter that plugs into the ABS/DSC module under the hood, but my autel scanner doesnt connect to the system. trying to get some direction on what to do next. do I need a bosch scanner, or do u know of anything else I can check with a volt. ohm. amp meter or any on board diagnostics I can try. information for the older Beamers seems to be very limited on the internet. I have read there are yaw sensors, modules on the floorboard that can get wet and corrode, solder joint failure in the abs/dsc modules ect. thanks for any direction. like what is the most common reason the DSC light comes on at around 20 mph.

I remember when I had to replace about eight ballast resistors in fluorescent lights for my dad. He put the lights up probably 10-15 years prior. These bad boys were eight feet in the air and when I went to do it I discovered rather than using wire nuts my dad soldered and taped every one of those wires! I was like what the hell was he thinking? I mean we had three hardware stores within 5 miles of the house and if the fourth one about 6 miles. Wire nuts have never been expensive! So I had to cut every one of the wires strip them and then put them in with wire nuts needless to say I wasn't impressed! I'll go with what you do every time I get the chance.

Wish it was this easy on my 97 Deville. The cluster itself acts as the security module so it failed the first time and I can t get the messages off the cluster screen. Second time I replaced my key to the resistance of the new cluster, cut it to my ignition, of course the first time I put the key in it works, the second time i grabbed the wrong key now I m right back where I started but the car still runs and drives because I got anti theft tuned out and the starter enable relay ground bypassed.

I love seeing the truly amazing durability of automobiles. Every car ever made WILL finally age to a point where it can NOT be fixed. GM engineers designed this GMC to last 5 years without a major repair. They did that so that the car would be affordable. Yet here it is running at 21-years-old. That key recognition system is an electronic device and yet it lasted 21 years. Do you have a cell phone that old? A TV that old? A computer that old? Right. I repeat, this is amazing.

I bought a used 2000 1500 Chevy back in 2003 the first thing that failed the second day I had it was this issue right here as directed by the dealer I took it to the mechanic he kept the vehicle nine hours in a shop billed the dealer for 7 hours And computer programming which I guess was the relearn I think someone got shafted the bill was well over 700 but I did not pay it the dealership did

I'm an electrician, not a car mechanic, but after you showed us how this (did not) work several years back, I did several for both our own shop GM vans/trucks and friends' vehicles.
How GM always finds the worst possible 'theft prevention' system out of all the potential solutions is truly awe-inspiring.
Thank your for the great video this morning!

Crimp butt connectors? I usually stay away from them too. I prefer to solder and heat shrink tubing. But, in tight places protected from weather they work just fine.
Me being beyond anal in my DIY repairs, I would have put a dab of hot glue on the screw of the variable resistor to keep it from wandering off it's initially-set value.

The cutting the wire brings me back to my military days. I sucked at math which by the way is VERY important when rigging charges of C4. We all set our charges in the blow burms and we re walking back as a group when my charge went off covering us with dirt and small rocks. I got better at math fast after that beat down

The only time the GM anti-theft system prevented someone from starting the vehicle, was when the owner needed to start it. Dealt with this problem monthly on my 2002 Chevy Blazer. It would routinely take 6-10 minutes for the system to re-learn the key. Needless to say, I got real good at doing this.

Got a 98 Savana in really good shape for 500 bucks with this problem. The guy had busted the the key lock and couldn't figure it out. Replaced the lock with a new no chip key, did a snip and connect, then did the relearn. To simple and I don't have to put up with the flashing security light.

Ok That truck should be rusted to the ground so who would steal that anyway. If you can do that I can t. My problem is the tire sensors on my 2009 STS Cadillac the car shop says they can t by pass them. They want 250. For 2 new ones just to get the light to go away. Ho Lee Chit!

Don't know how often you do this type of work Mr. O but I got one would like to see more. As our vehicles get older, these immobilizer systems start to fail, leaving us stranded with many hundreds of dollars to be spent between towing, parts, and locksmithing.

The quick way is take the key if it has the black pill in the middle of key and read resistance across either side of the metal contacts. Did that on a 1992 Buick Park Avenue. Had the same issue. Did help that I worked at an electronics based facility.
