First I have to say, you don't give yourself enough credit. You have a great analytical mind to figure out complex issues. Experience is a good help but being able to look at a wiring diagram and come up with a logical plan of attack is rare and a gift. I have been with GM for 26 years and have done drivability and diagnostics for all of them. You're a rare technician who can test and interrupt your finds. I've seen monkeys who can barely tie their shoes throw parts at cars because they don't want to take the time to do the work. Then eventually I get them and have to do the work they wouldn't. SO, pat yourself on the back and get a ice cream cause you're one the great ones. Oh, and don't worry about the backyard repair I've done it for customers with very little money to get them on the road. Salute!

Thanks for showing the entire diagnostic process for your viewer s benefit I know damn well you had a strong suspicion of what the problem was all along from past experience, and if you had checked the suspension module first, as your experience taught you, you could have fixed the truck in five minutes. That s what I do. If my first hunch is right, I just saved a bunch of time. If my first hunch is wrong, then I go for the step by step diagnosis and the moment or two I wasted looking for a pattern failure is insignificant.

Eric, this is Ron out here in California. The guy that asked you to do a shout out from my wife lol. I do very much appreciate your education on data links. I know you said you re not 100% skilled on it but, you certainly taught me a lot. Although we do not get a lot of snow and ice and salt for that matter, we still get our share of ground shorts and communication problems. Keep up the great work and keep up the videos. You are a good friend Ron.

Great Video. Hats off to your logical thought process. You're too humble and are underestimating yourself. As a retired mechanic I can say without a doubt that you would easily hold your own at any dealer. Not that you would want to. Been there done that and you don't. What really went in your favor though was the fact that it consistently stayed broken to allow you make this video. Intermittent problems are the worst. Great stuff.

I liked the process of elimination with modules. I guess the canbus is parallel versus the slow network might be a daisy-chained serial. I wouldn't have thought that would have worked since I haven't studied canbus yet. Oh and I did like the 120 ohms plus 120 Ohms equals 60! I know that calc is right but the addition made me chuckle at how fast you did it in your head.

I would love to know is it GM only that plus these modules under the vehicle to allow them to become giant green pus sandwiches out do other manufacturers do this? I have only seen you diagnose this on GM so far.
I have to say I am impressed to see how you get to the root of these problem for not knowing much about the networking of these vehicles.

I m impressed with your ability to work on databus. I ve tested and repaired the databus networks on literally hundreds of aircraft for Boing helicopters including Ch-47 Chinooks, and the V-22 osprey and usually if a whole network is down the problem is usually at one end or the other. I m at 24: 00 in and I m looking forward to seeing how you do.

Although I enjoy watching the bread and butter suspension / brake jobs, I much prefer these head scratcher type problems. I've recently bought an oscilloscope and I'm trying to learn all the basics to diagnosing can bus issues.
Good work Eric, thanks for taking us down the correct diagnostic route rather than just pointing out likeliest suspect.

Why do auto manufacturers just keep making vehicles more and more and more complicated? I want a car. That will start. And drive to my destination. Then, bring me home. That s it. I do not need a mobile online entertainment system that informs me that my coffee is cold. Jeez! We are out of our freakin collective minds!

Every time you say This pos is headed to scrap within a year, about a 2005 to 2010 vehicle, it just blows my mind! The salt in your part of the world is ridiculous. Here in Oregon, I plan on driving my 96 F250 until Im done driving! ( Im 68, so I hope I've got at least ten years ) Todd the retired trucker.

Can t believe the amount of salt on the underside of the vehicles you work on mr O, I live in the northeast of England and we get bad weather but not as much snow as you guys get. No wonder the underside of your vehicles are rusting to bits. Thanks for another lesson in auto diog and tracing faults Tom

That was a great diag session. I learned a lot.
One thing I would have done differently is I would ve salvaged the connector from the bad module and made the loop through that. That way you wouldn t have to cut the harness and it would be keep the seal to protect the connection from weather.

Hey folks, I knew whats wrong with this car before I even touched it, but for the sake of a video, lets pretend I don't If I can do it, you can do it, but it's going to take significantly longer Eric, you are the best and make it look so easy, glad your sharing your knowledge.
