Why new cars are a RIP-OFF!

Change your car with Carwow: When it comes to luxurious cars, it doesn’t get much better than the Bentley Continental GT. The problem is, they aren’t exactly the cheapest cars around! A new Continental GT Speed costs from around 237, 000, and the car that we have here (with a couple of options added) costs close to 300, 000! So what if you want to get your hands on a luxurious car but don’t have that sort of money lying around Well, you’d look for a second-hand option, of course. And that’s just what Mat’s done for this video! Mat and the team have done some browsing online and found a Continental GT from 2006 for just over 10, 000 - cheaper than the carbon ceramic brakes on the new Bentley! The question is - for such a low price, is it all a bit too good to be true Well in this video, Mat’s going to put the two cars to the test. From their design and interior quality to putting it through a full professional inspection, Mat will reveal whether it’s actually possible to pick up such a luxurious car on the cheap! The question is, if you had a spare 10, 000 lying around, would you be willing to risk it on a second-hand Bentley

Comical vid. We know the real answer: that lump is a dog on performance, kit, safety and economy. That's why only a dreamer buys it. The depreciation has NOTHING to do with the car. The issue is: new buyers bring a combination of privilege, luck & teenage desires. So, they buy. The 1st buyer's blindness, sets the level of piss-taking an object will create during its life. Same for a coke dealer's watch. His girlfriend's false arse. His Accountant's fees and his ridiculous restaurant bills. It's never been any different for 500 years, except for the arse bit.

The old Bentley doesn't look old because the shape of the Continental GT has not changed in its basics for over 20 years. And this is not a bad thing: Rolls-Royces and Bentley's used to evolve slowly (Silver Shadow/Silver Shadow II shape lasted at least 15 years, much more if you take in Silver Spirit too): these cars were meant to last rather than (as today) be replaced every three years in order to show off the latest tech and headlight graphics.

2024 convinced me Red Bull will have to ruin the car more than last year for Max to be not in that Chamionship fight. and when it gets to a title fight between Norris and Leclerc. if the cars are somewhat close Unless Leclerc has Monaco Luck all season long i think that will be a clean sweep.
Wait will
Why tf did you not mention Oscar Piastri being in that 25 title fight!

I have an 06 Flying Spur and it’s one of the most frustrating cars on earth. The bumper covers get hard and brittle over time and if you so much at tap them they shatter like a vase. Everything sends it into limp mode and even the dealer can’t find have the problems half the time. That said, I’m not even thinking of selling it. It’s complicated.

Matt - Don’t forget about the classic car rules for BIK purposes. The BIK for cars over 15 years old is usually calculated on the market value - it would be ridiculous for a taxpayer to pay Income Tax greater than the value of the car. Even HMRC appreciate this aspect of cars and BIKs.

If you buy a old Bentley with average to low mileage and with full service history you should be fine it’s not going to breakdown like an old banger it’s been looked after and it’s been serviced it’s the fear of things going wrong that put people off buying these luxury cars.

I was going to buy a Bentley Conti against everyone telling me DON'T-NO, NO, NO. But my ego was saying YES, YES, YES. So I bought a Genesis G90. I call it my BABY BENTLEY. Saved a shtload of $$$$$$$$$$$ in the meantime. VERY HAPPY. BUT, would still LOVE to have a Bentley.

The old one is in great condition, its a steal. I mean that repair quote was very resonable too. I mean the CV boots are just pieces of rubber bound to fail on any car, its the labor that makes it scary, but really, its a silly cheap problem outside of that.

I find it interesting that people do not keep up with the market price on cars and/or inflation. Everybody you asked said less than the actual value for the new Bentley. Everytime i was telling people the actual real price for a car they were noo it can't be!
reply

Really and truly. if one can offord to purchase a brand new Bentley. running cost should be a doddle! The problem starts when the Bentley drops to an affordable price that the ordinary man can afford and then they find the running cost astronomically high!

Great video, thanks! Regarding the reduced power output from the new car, guys from DSC OFF chanel recently put a Chiron on a dyno and it was cutting power as well. It turned out the missing data from acceleration sensor was forcing ecu to cut power.

Ferrari, Aston, McLaren. Continental was always a Grand Touring. Do you really prefer the new Bentley GT over the other GT options Call me suspect. But it sounds like you're not wanting to hurt Corpo feelings, that others make a better GT product.
reply

After BIK you discussed depreciation. and what if the company pays the depreciation You couldn't pay yourself an equivalent proportion of the money spent on the car within the company without considerable taxation on the sum in any event.
reply

What doe this video have to do with the title seems like the conclusion is new cars are great if you've got the money. Can you say CLICK BAIT last time I'll be fooled into watching a carwow vid.
reply

That poor W12. Give it some new spark plugs, filters, oil, O2 sensors, some injection cleaner, and maybe a fuel pump for a few hundred quid and enjoy a classic with 90% of its original power.
reply

Had one, loved it. Got rid of it when the check engine light came on and it was the computer. Mine had 40, 000 k. Got a Vanquish instead. Piece of crap. The Bentley was magnificent.
reply

The new Bentley is hideous. The interior looks cheap, nasty and unnecessary. Almost like a ford RS turbo or some other boy racer. If I had to choose I’d go with the older one.
reply

in one of my previous comments, i suggested doing (old vs new cars similarities.
i would like for you to do more popular cars people use like the Camry, ford 150, etc.

reply

Great comparison, can’t wait for more content on the older Conti GT.
A lively car to drive as a true GT just a bit scary if anything goes wrong mechanically.
