The BMW M2 squeezes supercar type performance in to a sleek coupe body, a signature design of the BMW M series. With this in mind is there much difference between the M2 and a regular 2 series? Can the M2 fend off tough opposition from rivals such as the Porsche Cayman, Lotus Exige or Audi TTS? Is the BMW M2 worthy of the hype and high praise it has thus far received from the automotive world? Sit back and relax as carwow-s very own Mat Watson puts the BMW M2 through its paces in our 4k review and find out if a new legend has been born!

The M2 was magical, unique, and special when it came out. I owned a 2017 M2. 8 months after I got it, I watched a 2018 M2 LCI come out, and now a 2019 M2 Competition Which will be replacing the -old- M2, making that special and unique feeling I had disappear in less than 9 months of ownership. I thought offering a comp pack like on the M3/M4 would have been okay as cars are always evolving, but they never let the M2 go on a normal 4-5 year life cycle and felt more like a slap on the face to current M2 owners who waited a long time for their cars. I beat the massive depreciation that lies ahead now for the -old- M2 and traded it in, and went back to my original dream car, and actually got it. Hellcat baby! I miss aspects of my M2, but the M2C will be nice. M3 comp pack really only M car I would consider in the future.

I'm a BMW fan boy and only ever owned BMW's and I love them to bits! But I have to admit the interior is so outdated compared to the latest rivals of Mercedes and Audi. If BMW could keep up with their rivals interior on their next gen cars then they would be the best by far! All the latest Mercedes have a horrible back end. C, E and S class are all have the same horrible rear. As for the Audi across some ranges they haven't changed the look entirely but still look great.
The MINI has a fantastic interior and is all very good to look at, if only BMW could rub off from that without making it look too quirky like it is in the MINI.

I think it's the N55 out of the M135i, isn't it? I prefer to the new B58. More rewarding at the top end and sounds a bit sweeter. Can't deny the improvements they have made though.
I was lucky enough to meet a cool dude in Germany who was taking his manual M2 around the ring. He took me for a spin in it and oh my word, it handles so well. It reminds me of the E46 M3. So nimble and balanced. Epic car!

first 3 minutes of the video of Matt having fun driving round a track like a lunatic, then goes on to admit not what people who may buy the car are interested in - 1 minute talking about the car thereon. Don't get carried away when getting a car that performs, review it as you do with all other cars. Thumbs down and unsubbed: )

The last authethentic and real Bimmer with the proper M-spirit. The M4 is a nerds mobile. The M6 is tame. The i8 is a 3 cyilnder hybird. Everything else? Dog ugly and boring. Except the X6, nice car.
THough the M2 cannot stand in the shadow of the honesty of the 1M. Or rather: the E46 M3 Coupe.

Had a M235i last year and got lucky on a cancelled M2 which I got on 20/12/16 done 2300 miles lots of smiles not much quicker in a straight line but through the bends in another league also had a spar with a new Golf R the other day in the dry and smoked it so all I can say is mighty impressed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the M2 uses an updated N55 engine whereas the new m240 uses a complete new 'B58' engine? The only main difference I'm aware of is that the newer engine uses nicasil lining on the cylinders rather than traditional steel liners to reduce friction.

When I see a car reviewer driving a car like this or any high performance version of an ordinary car and they are deadpan or straight faced if they say the car is -fun- then I know they're lying as a fun car will make you smile. The first 10 seconds of this vid told me all I needed to know.

M2 in Canada, with decent options goes for 90-93k. Who in their right mind, would buy an M2 or even lease this thing with a sticker price of almost 100k? It's a nice car. but, an RS3 goes for 64K with options. BMW has lost their minds on the pricing of this car

Wait a minute, so BMW makes a new engine in the M240i, and ups the horsepower to 340 hp, they put the same engine in the 2017 M2 and it still only has 370 hp?
So that probably means a M240i xDrive is now faster from 0-100 kph than the M2?
