This is the new Volkswagen Touareg! VW-s latest SUV is designed to go up against the Audi Q7 and BMW X5, but as a result it comes with a price tag to match. Starting at just under -50, 000, it-s the most expensive VW on the market today! But with so much competition in the SUV market in 2019, does the Touareg offer good value for money? Honestly I don't think the conclusion that you can have better car for similar money is fair. This is basically a more accessible Audi - the 3. 0 and 4. 0 engines are from Audi, no other VW uses them. The gearbox is also from Audi, no other VW uses it - they all use the DSG instead. This is also the only VW available with air suspension. So basically you can't get much lower than Q7 price with such parts, but you still get a Q7 alternative for less, not -similar- money. So of course there would be cheaper parts here and there, who would buy the Q7 if the interior was at Q7 level, given that everything important underneath already is?

Having had the previous R Line plus model from 2017 which I loved I was really disappointed with the new Touareg when I test drove it. The engine is superb, gear box is great but the car itself just feels cheap inside. Hard plastics, cheap switch gear, and the screens were a bit laggy. For such an expensive car (I was in an R Line Tech) I was genuinely disappointed. I eventually decided on the facelifted 2020 Volvo XC90 and it-s a huge leap up in quality. Everything just feels better and the tech is advanced but simple. The only downside was the engine choice but everything else blows the Touareg out of the water.

A quick glance at online prices for the Touareg and q7 show the Touareg at roughly 10 grand cheaper than the q7. 43k v 54k. So it's probably not good practice to call it 'similar money', or judge one against the other, unless your going to state the price bracket. And another thing why do these new hip testers need to speak like there's no tomorrow? Is it so necessary to speak so fast?

Actually my family was deciding between this the Audi Q8 and A6 avant and if it wasn-t for the better discount on the A6 we would get this since at full and not discounted price the A6 was 101. 000- and the Touareg 88. 000- still not much but it-s a good deal another problem is when I-m going to sell it since it doesn-t seems to keep up value that well-anyway have a nice day -

So I am a little confused here. I can see two of your Touareg reviews about 7 months apart. This one where your verdict is the car is so so and the few months older one titled -New Volkswagen Touareg SUV 2019 review - better than an Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga! - where you basicaly say the car is very good even better than Q7. Am I missing something?

3 minutes of driving in a 14 minute review, as usual (for some of us the drive is the most important aspect. The gearbox is a non issue. My Audi Tfsi has a similar system to change to sport mode, if lag is a worry, just flick into sport when coming up to a roundabout etc and then flick out again at the other side. Takes a split second each time

I think this is a car lost between two worlds with the result it is a bit lost. If you want an on road limousine with sharp handling and luxury others do it better (Audi, MB, BMW, Land Rover. If you want a real offloaded that is built to do anything with loads of space the Land Cruiser and Shogun Sport do it better for less.

I like the detail provided in these reviews but I think CarWow should try using different presenters, I think Matt is very good but I-ve must have seen 50 reviews of his which all merge into one long review of him commenting on door bins and scratching the hell out of interior panels.

I think this and Audi's q7 interior are the best of any brand, they are intelligently lied out and feel futuristic with reasonable build quality and feel compared to mercedes or bmw which practically give the same interior layout to each car in their range

I test drove this car, I didn't even know of it till I walked in to vw, and I had q8 in mind to begin with, and wow, this blew my mind I fell inlove with it, I've had a range rover, I've had an AMG, I've driven a fair few cars, this was my all time favourite!
