It-s time for the Cupra Ateca to go head-to-head with the Golf R! Normally, the Ateca would roll up with the power to hit 300hp, slightly lower than the Golf R's 310hp. However, Mat's had a -1500 upgrade fitted under the bonnet! Will it make a difference? It's time to find out. Let us know what you think in the comments below!

instead to pay those huge money (650-900euro) for a remap, better lesson to do it yourself! It would takes about 2 weeks if you're in domain and know how things works in a engine and ecu, or about one month if yo are not very familiarized with those.
OR. you came in eastern europe (bulgaria, romania) and get a remap (for a stock car, it's beginner job) for 200-400euro. which allows you to make some economy AND to visit a wonderful country, maybe the famous mountain road named -transfagarasan-, unique caves and mountain lakes, a lot of medieval castles and roman sites.

I recently changed my 2016 Golf R for a Cupra Ateca. I added the same Tuning Box I had in my Golf R (TDI Tuning Box with extra 70 bhp. Felt a lot quicker than the golf until I met a Golf R coming off a roundabout from a stop light on a 70 mile road on my way to Liverpool: my Cupra won the 0-60mph hands down. Do I regret ever changing the Golf for the Ateca, No. I have had it for 2 months and not seen a single one on the road. Amazing -

The GTI and Golf R, are not the fastest cars out of the box. but after some mods, fuel injections, and turbo changes its a better option than a Porsche or Ferrari out of the box and 3 times cheaper. It does hurt to see VW even be behind the other compact sport cars. So much for German Engineering being the best. Or maybe the US controls stop what VW is capable of doing.

-Maybe I'm just getting old, but an improvement over a quarter mile of just 0. 4 seconds for a (supposed) 50bhp upgrade, is pathetic in my opinion. That extra 50bhp should easily give you a 1. 1 - 1. 3 second improvement. Then again, Mat's driving skills leave a lot to be desired! -

I owned the Golf R 7. 5 estate. My stock vehicle did 13. 0 at Santa Pod. With a tune it just managed to break 12 second. I'm more waiting for my order. Cupra Ateca. Really disappointed the ABT tube isn't available.

Why are you blokes getting shitty 13. 6 1/4 mile times? Here in hot ass Australia with our shitty de tuned 7. 5r and shitty sulfur enriched petrol people are getting 12. 8-12. 9 in standard dsg 7. 5 r

I knew the VW golf wouldn't win if the other car got more power but it's only a little difference so that's why I voted it's probably not worth the extra money unless you prefer more power
reply

Yes, you said it, the weight is the difference and the traction of course. Even so, the Cupra Ateca was very close. The best comparison should be with Leon Cupra (new newer)
reply

Now lets see them both go round a few corners and see who wins and whats better to drive. Ateca great for fast SUV however it still reeks of Dad trying too hard.

Well, I feel like a SEAT can never beat a VW. it's like how Renault has Dacia, VW keeps SEAT as their cheap versions for those who want to budget
