A race is a race, and a win is a win, and there should be no excuses, but be not deceived; throw 26 psi of boost on the EVO to match the 26 psi of boost on the 3 cylinder 1600 Yaris, and there is no competition. Yes I like the trick transmission/4WD system the Yaris has, but this is a purpose-built car made to be its best up to 500 HP and the best 4WD system just to win the WRC. What it was not meant to do was to kick ass in an aftermarket best performer. It reminds me a lot of the Daihatsu Charade GTTI, a little 3 cylinder turbo pocket-rocket about 1000 cc that just decimated everything in its sight being one of the only turbo vehicle in its era.

Evo, beautiful? Yes. A 21 year old that can keep up with a brand new one? Yes. However, the yaris does all this while being compliant with today-s regulations. Also, the evo got 15 mpg when spirited driving while the yaris gets high 20-s. But the biggest thing is the evo was about 32k when the average car price was 21k (us dollars, while the yaris is about 35k when the average car is 37k. What I-m saying is, yes, the evo is a dream car, but not a lot of people could or would buy one when new whereas the yaris is average priced.

There used to be a white mitsubishi evo 6 in the town near me. I last saw it about 14 years and I remember thinking it was soo cool but the number plate wasnt in the centre of the bumper, which just looked bizzare to me. I kept saying why on earth did they put it there and ruin it? I later learned it can't go in the centre because it would block the radiator and intercooler so I was being an idiot 12 year old. Sadly i have never seen another one since.

Yianni I have an advice for you how to launch: Hold the clutch deep, rev to 3k rpm as it tops out 7k and it-s awd so it has good low end torque and high end and it won-t bog down and press on the gas slightly as you leave the clutch halfway and then floor the gas and just let off the clutch so it won-t damage the clutch too much and you-re gonna have a great launch on a manual -

I had the pleasure of going snowmobiling with the man himself (Tommi Makkinen) in Finnish Lapland circa 2003. Let's just say, he's as fast on a skidoo as in an Evo. Top bloke; totally down to earth. I used to do adventure skidoo tours there and can speak the language, so got to chat with him in his native Finnish. Great times.

I don't want to hate on the man. but that gear change that he missed from 5th to 2nd. a normal stick driver could row down through the gears from 5th to 4th to 3rd to 2nd and nail every gear in less time than he took to mess up 5th to 4th to 2nd. I literally do this every day just driving around town.

I thought the Yaris would win pretty convincingly in the tests vs an older evo due to power losses over time. But that one has obviously been looked after mechanically and most likely single owner. Now if they just compare thirst, insurance costs, safety features and servicing costs: P

Toyota has never been known for preforamance, that why their 2 sports cars are built by other manufacturers, even the new -gazoo racing- aren't really built by toyota, that being said aftermarket parts are non existent for the Toyota, so your stuck paying 20$ for a OEM spark plug

Ditto like a previous American said. Too Bad Toyota isn't selling the GR Yaris in the US. This Yaris is in a totally other Class than the first Yaris that Bombed here. Toyota should have been clever enough to put another Badge on this Amazing 3 cylinder Rocket

It is impressive both ways: how good is the EVO after so many years; how good is the Yaris with all the restrictions nowadays. Wouldn't be interesting to know how much fuel did each car consumed after the filming?
