Lotus Emira review - and my BANNED test!

Introducing the final Lotus to be powered by an internal combustion engine - the Emira! Mat s got his hands on this all-new sports car to see if it can compete with class-leading competitors like the Porsche Cayman GTS. So naturally, with it being a sports car, we need to check out the performance. The Emira will come with two engine choices, and the one we have here is a 3. 5-litre supercharged V6 that s produced by Toyota and is good for 400hp and 420Nm of torque. It powers the rear wheels along with a 6-speed manual gearbox and is good for a top speed of 180mph. Later on this year, you ll also be able to get your hands on an Emira powered by the same engine you ll find in the AMG A45 S - a 2-litre turbocharged 4 cylinder! However, Mercedes has turned down the power output on it, so as a result it only produces 360hp & 430Nm. However, although it s still RWD, it ll also roll up with an automatic gearbox! Elsewhere, there s no denying that the Emira is a really classy car. From the outside, it looks super-sleek and is covered with vents (and they all serve a purpose, and it even comes with real exhaust tips at the back! And once you step inside, the interior quality can easily match what you ll find in a Porsche, with leather & high-quality materials throughout, along with a good-sized infotainment screen.

this is an extraordinary package for that price range and maintenance costs: high performance chassis, what you need for a sports car, good sport brakes with free floating discs (although maybe a bit too high in diameter, maybe because of its weight then it needed 20 rims but gt racecars use 18 rims with smaller discs with airducts, so for street cars you maybe need a setup like this to avoid those messy ducts, manual gearbox available, awesome styling, very desirable driveline layout, insane sound for a 4 cylinder and can rival any larger engine, the only downside seems to be weight at 1400kg

Britts always want Lotus to be a Porsche killer so does every manufacturer, actually. However, once long term reviews come out, you ll see the typical electrical problems, interior problems like dashboards bubbling in the sun, paint chipping (these are all known problems with the most recent lotus model before this) none of which say Porsche killer to me. Lotus is and always will be a flop and a bad investment.

Own 3 Evoras so a bit biased on Lotus but when i order Emira will be 4cyl. The Toyota engine is nealy 20yrs old and core gearbox design is almost as old. The modern 4cyl and 8spd suit Emira better. Exhuast note and manual are what many whine about on reasons getting V6. On track the DCT will be much more enjoyable. Im keeping Evora 400 so can still enjoy V6 note.

Gone are the days of small increamental improvements, whats boring with electric cars is everything is software based and potentially every EV car can hit 3 seconds to 100km/h that's boring. Thanks lotus for trying.

I opted for the 3. 5L V6 engine with automatic gearbox. I'm not gonna waste my time holding the clutch in the traffic.
The automatic has a paddle-shift so I can always downshift once and it turns into a manual car

Lotus lost it. look copied from Ferrari, engine from Toyota or Mercedes, rear look somehow i can see McLaren. So, looking at the price all i can think about is Lotus screaming: please buy from us we need cash.

To me this seems to be a 3/4 C8 Corvette. 3/4 price, 3/4 weight, 3/4 size, 3/4 price, 3/4 engine cylinder count, 3/4 interior stuff. But just as wonky looking as the C8. Great Review - Thanks!

Am curious about the automatic version on how the gearbox would perform compared to the AMG version, since if i were to get one where im based, im defo going automatic due to the heavy traffic

The V6 is the only way to go, as it sounds fantastic and is the only way to get the manual transmission. The exterior design really is a stunner and interior design and quality looks great!
