Can't believe Porsche let me do THIS to their 911 Dakar!

This is the most incredible Porsche 911 the world has ever seen The Porsche 911 Dakar! It s based on the Carrera 4 GTS, but it s been modded up to the eyeballs to make it suitable for taking off-road! But what exactly has changed over the standard car? Well for starters, let s take a look on the outside. Up front, you ll find a redesigned bumper, a tow hitch and retro-styled alloys at both the front and back. The car has also been raised 60mm higher than standard and has the option to raise an additional 30mm if needed. There s a carbon fibre spoiler around the back, extra cladding around the wheel arches and the same bonnet as taken from the GT3! Despite being built for burly off-road work, the 911 Dakar is still unmistakably a Porsche on the inside, with the infotainment screen, centre console and dials mirroring the GTS. However, there are a couple of changes to distinguish it from the normal car, such as bespoke driving modes, super-durable floor mats, and bucket seats lifted from the GT3. Oh, and of course, you won t miss the roll cage at the back! The 911 Dakar is powered by the same engine as the Carrera 4 GTS, which means it s equipped with a 3-litre twin-turbo flat-six which is good for 480hp and 570Nm of torque. The engine sends power to all four wheels, which is just as well given some of the surfaces the 911 Dakar is likely to encounter! Interested? Of course, you are! There s one thing to consider though The price starts from 173, 000! So is it worth it? It s time for Mat to put it through its paces and find out!

the PORSCHE 911 Dakar (Typ 991. 2) 4WD + 1. 0 in. Lift 3. 4 Biturbo V6 2-Dr Sports Rally Coupe (LHD) could do with a beefed up recalibrated suspension setup, a tad on the softer side. .. featuring a proper heavy duty full spec 1. 0 in. suspension lift in addition to the optional 0. 5 in. axle lift. .. this would mean removing the air suspension altogether which is fine for real all terrain rally enthusiasts. .. the rear wheel steering should be discarded, spoils the legendary 911 fun. .. rear wheel steering is for full size luxury sedans driving through narrow lanes of Paris or cruising across captivating twisty Alpine roads. .. the ex-Rothmans livery looks great but could do without the number & lettering. ..

It s a brave man who does this to a 911. In all seriousness I wish Porsche would do a Macan Dakar and actually enter it in the race. A great opportunity to take there suv segment and give it a similar treatment they do when designing and producing 911 gt and rs versions, in all honesty if you think something along the lines of more effective suspension which caters to a more aggressive off road capability ( think ford raptor range ) it doesn t have to take the RS moniker but, if you think that no euro brands actually do anything in this space it really is completely open. Given Porsche s expertise and reputation for never doing anything by halves. They would fly out the door.

Porsche growing HUGE next few years. theyre really doing the ground work like proper.
E fuel, testing cars like no other, racing cars turned to street cars, theyre not even focusing on electrics anymore, whilst everyone just blinded with electrics still.
All of this while Porsche was already a better car than anyother.

Not that I'm anywhere near a position to afford one, nor would I care if I had the money to buy one, but how much more is maintenance and upkeep on this than the 'normal' version, especially if one yeets about off-road fairly often?
reply

If I had the money to buy a Porsche, I would absolutely buy the Porsche Dakar precisely because it does what it does and doesn't look like something that's supposed to be posed in and have the life detailed out of it!
reply

If I had the money, I would add it to my collection, I just would not take it to a muddy offroad course to get stuck and I think I will be gentle with it too so as to avoid expensive damage.
reply

That s is a amazing Porsche but for it too keep getting stuck either it needs a winch or more ground clearance if it really is gonna be a Dakar racer otherwise it s best as a rally car

It's like Porsche saw all the crappy pothole riddled roads down here in South Africa and thought calling it a Porsche Mzansi might be a little on the nose. Love it

Mate why do you have to do the high pitched female noises half way through? My family thinks I m watching something dodgy when all I m watching is a car review

For that money. I'll get Rivian R1t. sits 5, has tons of storage space, faster to 60. and still have at least 80 to 95 grand to spend on a proper supercar.

Can they make a cheap version with a cayman for like 100k? I can t afford this thing but Its what I always wanted. (I ll end up safari ing a 996 c4)

Buy a gt3 rs, and buy one more car because you have 0 luggage space! Why not buy a gt3 cup car that is faster and more track focus and less money!

-Hey bro, I know this guy, Met from carwow, isn't he?
-Ye
-I know, he usually does drag races on smooth roads!
-Not exactly

I don t think Porsche went far enough with this model. It needs a lot more wheel travel, softer suspension, and more ground clearance.

Porsche: We did not mean you could ruin our masterpiece
