Meet the new BMW X1! It s the entry-level SUV in BMW s line-up, and Mat s about to find out if it s the must-have choice compared to other premium small SUVs. For starters, this may be the smallest BMW SUV around, but it s seemingly grown in size compared to the previous edition. If anything, it looks more like an X3! There have been a number of other design changes too, from a bigger grille up front and a redesigned front and rear bumper. There are a number of other, smaller touches as well, including flush door handles on either side. Step inside and just like any BMW, you re treated to a high-quality interior. There are good quality, soft-touch materials across the dash and the top of the doors, and the centre console is comfortable and well laid out. There s lots of storage to be found throughout the cabin, and the infotainment screen & digital dials are pretty smart, too. Overall it s a pretty good experience in the X1, although there are some annoying bits of plastic to be found on the steering wheel! There are a couple of petrol and diesel engines to choose from, with the range-topper currently a 2-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 218hp. However, there s more choice coming in the future, including two plug-in hybrids as well as an all-electric edition, the iX1! Ranel: I m from Singapore and a few weeks ago me and my fam went for car shopping. When we went to the BMW showroom we asked for the X1 we were escorted to a secret place and shown this car and it was beautiful it looks more chunky like an suv tha it is in this video and the interior and interior quality>Merc and Audi

I just took one for a test drive and enjoyed the ride. But the removal of all climate and heated seat controls is frustrating. Felt like every typical adjustment (change temp, turn on heated steering wheel or seats) took 3-7 clicks to do in the interface. Dealer told me to use voice control for easier access. Think I m going to avoid and consider either Q3 or go back to a 3-series to satisfy my desire for tactile switches and knobs.

Those m performance wheels are shit. I drove this car with those wheels and I told sales rep to change them cos they make driving a horrendous experience. The suspension cannot cope with such thing rubber. Every average hole at average speed causes an almost metallic sound from rear suspension. That was ridiculous. Why would anyone buy those expensive wheels for this unsporty car?

It's actually a really tidy little package. That adaptive cruise functionality through the touchscreen is ludicrous and dangerous but otherwise if you don't have kids who are freakish size basketball players, or need to hoof a massive load of stuff about too often, do you really need much more than this?

BMW - and all makes - BUTTONS FOR CLIMATE AND BASIC AV. Style over safety should never be considered again. Mistakes made for last time please - Humans are driving still! Also, there is consumer annoyance of removing of functional, tactical methods - don't brake what wasn't broke.

SUVs nowadays are useless. They are basically inflated saloons. No ground clearance, poor off-road capability compared to SUVs from around 10-15 years ago.
I see no point of buying SUVs. Apart from show off.
I'd rather buy a BMW saloon, 3/5 series

Is it me, or has Matt become abusive with the cars he reviews? Almost like he's not enjoying his job anymore, like he's just going through the motions. I love carwow car reviews, but I'm enjoying them less these days. I didn't enjoy this one at all.

That following distance screen navigation is absolutely ridiculous. What is that, one button and 4 screens before you can change your ACC following distance? BMW should be embarrassed for overcomplicating such basic functions in a car

My god the little X has grown up so much! The most modern iDrive system, butch looks and plush interior. The only thing missing is the swivel knob to control the infotainment. Luckily BMW s voice assistant is quite good.

Is it me or does the rear end look like a complete mess? I mean just compare this car and it's predecessor the X1 before this was better looking (even though not the best looking of BMW's x line-up)

Just received mine with the diesel 150HP, love it! Consumption is great, I can drive 1100km with a full tank. It's less than 5, 3l/100km, better than my mini countryman with the 1, 5l/diesel engine.

Gotta give credit where credit is due, this car actually looks great. The new 7-series, their beaver teeth grill 3-4 series, XM, IX, M2 are all horrible looking cars, really awful. But this looks nice.

Just bought a one year old older model. Waiting list for new one was quoted at 12 months and the new model won t fit in my garage. Why do manufacturers keep on making their cars bigger?
