Tesla Model S Plaid review - what will it do 0-60mph?

The time has come for Mat to review the Tesla Model S Plaid! It-s the all-new version of Tesla-s world-famous saloon, and Mat-s about to find out just how much it-s changed compared to the previous edition. Starting with the design- Well, it-s not all that different! Chrome accents from the previous edition have been swapped with black, while a boot lip spoiler has been added to the back and the looks up front have been made sleeker. Once you step inside, the biggest change is the introduction of the yoke steering wheel. The infotainment screen has also switched from portrait to landscape, and plush quality materials can be found throughout - no surprise given the price starts at -96, 000! However, the biggest change compared to the old model is the performance! With one motor up front and two at the back, the new Model S Plaid can deliver 1, 020hp & 1, 400Nm! So- Is it worth it?

We all know whats coming. the big car manufacturers will quickly outpace and out engineer Tesla, all for less $. Not as many people care about a car that can do 2 seconds vs. 6 flat (which, BTW, is still plenty of acceleration for passing. hell 7 seconds is plenty we just forget what fast is these days. not to mention the embarrassing build quality, all when you consider Tesla has had 12 years minimum to sort these things out but focuses on fiddly tech instead.

Its amazing and I really do love how it looks.
What I dislike about most new and futuristic cars is the overuse of touch-screens.
I do understand, in todays world, its probably easier to just have a screen with a computer and just program all the things you need in it, then design buttons with all their wirings and stuff, but if your screen is faulty, you literally lose half of your cars functionality.

Wow, so the stuff that I'll use the most is fiddly and the stuff that I'll only use during an occasional long road trip is not. Physical buttons and knobs do make for a better UX. The horn, turn indicators and the PRNDL being fiddly of all things is a deal breaker. I'll think I'll pass on this one, which is a shame cause the rest of the car fits my lifestyle. Thanks for the overview!

0-60 in 1. 9 seconds
They have a thing called roll out where they don-t measure the first foot. Of course the first foot is the most important where the drive train uses the most energy & traction
But if you use the normal 0-60 set up say at a DRAG STRIP where the rules are LAW. Then it does 2. 4 seconds.
So no it doesn-t do 0-60 in 1. 9 seconds.

I think this car is just unsuitable for the European market. It is way too wide for narrow British or European roads, I can see you losing wing mirrors quite a lot. We also use roundabouts that require changing indicators while the wheel is in different positions which is very difficult on this yoke. It is really built for straight wide American roads.

Elon, if you want all your speed competition to eat your dust. look at my gearing system for EV's. one tooth difference between gear & pinion in final drive, gives you unlimited RPM's for higher top speeds, 120 degree arc of tooth contact, not one or two teeth contact as in normal gearing. teeth are much stronger due to design. I really don't get the appeal of this car. Don't get me wrong if someone offered me one I'd love it. But If I could afford to splash that amount of money on a car, I am not sure this car would be my choice. The only reason I can see to buy one is if you wanted to be faster than everyone else off the line.

Read lots of negative comments re the yoke, but you guys should really try it out, its so easy to use! I put one on my 1996 vw microbus (the steering is super light cos all the weights in the back, and it was way better than the colossal awkward standard vw steering wheel

Teslas in the last 2/3 years are making the same impact as the iPhone was having back in 2007 - 2010
I remember everyone back than thought it was a joke, phone without keyboard and with this huge screen had no chance against Nokia- the rest is history
