BYD Atto 3 - The best car you ve never heard of?

Meet the BYD Atto 3! You might not have heard of BYD before, but we can assure you it s highly likely you ve come into contact with one of its products before! It started out producing batteries, and it s now moved into the business of building its own cars! But are they any good? Well starting with the design, we re getting some serious Cupra Born vibes from the back. Elsewhere though, the exterior looks are relatively generic. That s not to say it s a bad-looking car - it just doesn t do much to stand out from the crowd. It s also available in a choice of 5 colours, and there are three different trim levels available. However, things become a bit more interesting on the inside! The design is apparently inspired by a gym, although we re having trouble connecting that with what we can see. One thing we can t miss on the inside, however, is the huge 15 infotainment screen that dominates the dash! It s super clear and pretty responsive, with all infotainment features controlled via its touchscreen. The practicality is pretty good, too, with large storage areas in the centre console. There s just one battery and motor combination available with the Atto 3 - a single 201hp motor mounted to the front axle, coupled with a 60kWh battery pack. This comes with a claimed range of 260 miles. The question is, can it really warrant the 36, 000 starting price, especially when there are so many all-electric SUVs to choose from already! You ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

I test-drove one when they came out last year here in Australia. It's quite an impressive small SUV. It drove like a raised Hyundai i30. Speaking of Hyundai and the i30, the styling reminds me of the older i30s. Reasonably nice-looking but generic and lacking character. The interior is overdone and a bit gimmicky as well. The technology is there but is engineered cheaply compared to Tesla, legacy brands and other Chinese automakers. Is it for me? No. I'd pay the extra 10k it costs in Australia to get into a base Model 3, but for the average person in Australia and most countries, this is all the car they need. They're already selling like hotcakes here in the land Down Under, and I'm sure they will in the rest of the world. Well done, BYD.

What a over priced hunk of slow junk. But the question is how do you people have any fun over there with the thousands of speed cameras on every corner that can and have sent out tickets to people not even speeding? Is it just part of the cost of driving there? I read an article online about britain's speed cameras. Thought someone local could share some info.
This ev does nothing for me. Racey looks dont mean squat to me. I know thats just my preference.

It looks like not too bad a car - very much like any of the SUV Electrics - However, at the moment the elephant in the room is residuals and dealer network. If you buy one, what will it be worth in 3 years - and if it goes wrong, who is going to fix it and what about spare parts. I'd rather go VW iD4 or 5, it may cost a little more initially (but not much on iD4) but the VW will return probably most of its cost - Who knows with the BYD?

A big NO to these Chinese electric cars. Have a look at the taxis in the city of Shenzhen in South China, many BYD taxis either have to retire early or needs to be repaired in an early stage because of the poor quality they built. The BYD taxis in Hong Kong has nearly disappeared because of this, and the bus company of Hong Kong has returned or scrapped some of the BYD buses(just only a few years ages)

These things are popular in New Zealand, see them everywhere, personally I like them with their funky styling but I don't like electric cars in general and there around 60k in NZ which is expensive for a smallish-mid size suv when there petrol powered counterparts are 20k cheaper or 30k in some cases

Matt, you really let yourself down.
When you commented on the smaller screen behind the steering wheel, you were being racist.
You said the screen was slanted, and then you took several looks to the camera, with slanted eyes.
Not your finest moment.

The Atto 3 is without a doubt the most popular electric car here in Malaysia - it was launched in December and already 1, 000 units have been delivered - which is quite a feat because the electric infrastructure here is not as well developed as in the UK.

This video title just shows how disconnected and kinda slow - I think would be a good word to describe - carwow is. I mean it, seriously.
The Atto 3 is dominating markets for a better part of a year now, and you're only making a video about it now?

Wow this comment section is pretty toxic. From anti Chinese Cars to anti EVs if you guys don t want them Australia will gladly take them. I find it funny people calling this obsolete when the UK and Europe are banning ICE cars in the coming years.

The sudden flood of this kinda junk from China is gonna be dangerous. I am in Saudi right now and they are everywhere! My friends were in an accident with one and it opened up like a cheap tin can. Stay well clear! It s cheap for a reason

Has it got to the UK just now, we got it in my country(Israel) in September, and it's usually us who had to wait(sometimes even months) until a car is coming to our country after it got to Europe and the rest of the world.

If you're into all these alternative carmakers, particularly from China, watch Wheelsboy - he reviews China automative exclusives and there are some cool cars oh and BYD (Build Your Dreams) as a brand name grows on you

Chinese knock off of German and French cars! You know you re just filling China s war chest reviewing this crap! I hope never to see them in Europe! We need to stop dealing with China NOT Promoting their crap!

Just been watching a video from Serpenza just prior to this.
Maybe a bit of sensationalism but do the EV's catch fire this easy, and appear difficult to extinguish.
Come on Mat spill the beans for us.
