Aiming your headlamps or adjusting your headlamps so the beams are in the correct spot is important for visibility and so you do not blind other drivers. This video shows you how to properly align headlights so that you get the maximum lighting yet you wont blind other drivers. Using the headlight adjustment screws and a wall you I give you the correct beam distances that apply to almost every make and model! Here is a specialized tool you can use to turn the adjuster screws

I've noticed that I'm getting more reflections from road signs. I've probably been going too fast over bumps, and they knocked my headlights out of alignment, making them point more and more upwards.
I'm going to try and adjust my headlights some time this week.
There's this place near where I work that I could go to after work. I just need to check to make sure the ground is flat, as I know that part of that lot is wavy.
Otherwise I'll probably have to bring something to strap to the fence at work, cause I know my work parking lot is flat. (Or go behind the Walmart or Home Depot, but I don't think they'd be okay with me being there xD)

Excellent video, thank you! I like the way you use painter's tape as opposed to a pen. It's a sign of respect considering it's chancy these days because people might think you're up to something. Just one thing. I always thought that the driver's side should be aimed inward toward the white line a bit rather than straight forward to prevent blinding oncoming traffic?

I feel like an idiot because this does not make sense to me. Nowhere can I find what do I adjust on my headlights? They're like up in the trees right now. I have a 2003 Grand am I don't know where the adjustments are made. I think I'm just going to buy new headlights because that's easier I can do that.

I know this video is old but, can you do another one like this but with xenon headlamps so the squares that you are adjusting are more visible and more noticeable on the videos to the rest of the viewers, I think I'm having some trouble finding the triangled pattern in this video

Am a mechanic and was nice to hear and see different ways to do things and pick up some additional tips to raise my game. Very good video sir. I never turn down a chance to learn and pick up extra tips to aid in more of a smooth repair. Honing skills.

Have you ever encountered a set of headlights that don't allow horizontal adjustment? I just got a new set and they have four adjustment screws each. Two adjust the high beam, the other two adjust the low beam and both seem to adjust it vertically.

that's all fine and dandy if you want your head lights to be level, but most states require your lights to hit the pavement at 150 feet, level lights don't do that, 90% of ford vehicles from the factory are set level and are illegal in most states.

I tried this at my home, I don't have enough space so instead of measuring from 25' I measure it from 17' and used a rule of three so I low my tape 1. 6 xd. In math makes sense, and did it pretty well I think lol

Hi Chris, do you have any idea why my high beam indicator light in the dash doesn't turn on during high beam after I change the stock headlight bulb to LED?
reply

The correct adjustment is not the bottom of the light it's the little dimple in the center of the light. Also the passenger side should be higher.
