Mitsubishi 3000GT - Everything You Need to Know Up to Speed BeowulfDude: My dad had the Gen1 3000GT-VR4. He had the first one in the area, and they were rare enough at that time that people were flabbergasted whenever they saw it. Some dude even crashed his bicycle when he saw it. People would crowd around it and take pictures. People would crowd around it ON THE ROAD, making it pretty difficult to enjoy a highway cruise. It was never meant to be a sports car. It was never meant to be a 300ZX fighter. While it was a halo car, like the Corvette, it was more a Grand Tourer than a sports car. Think BMW 850 rather than M3 or even M5. Think Camaro rather than Corvette. It was placed against the 300ZX and RX-7 by the media because of the similarities in price and performance. It was capable of beating a Corvette around the track, so people thought Sports Car. When the Supra was redone, it had its sights on the 3000GT, even though it was more a sports car in design. EVERYONE seemed to treat it as a sports car, yet it really wasn't. What do you call a comfortable 2+2, long-legged performance car with all the luxury features and all the tech you could ask for? A GT. Even a Super GT. Sports cars were lighter, tended to have only two seats (not always, and sacrificed tech for performance and handling. The 3000GT used the tech to get both the performance and the handling, sacrificing nothing. It cared nothing about weight. It was just as happy cruising around on endless highways as it was burning up the back roads or tearing your face off at track day. That's not something you could say about ANY of its sports car competitors at the time, but absolutely applicable to GT. Something to know, though: The Gen1 had only 300hp, 17 wheels, AWD, Dual-Stage 4WS, Active Aero, Suspension modes, exhaust modes, centralized 4-wheel ABS. The later gens added 18 wheels and 20 more HP, but dropped some of the other features. Even though they had more HP, they were actually less capable.

I miss my GTO. It was a very odd car. The active suspension and aero made a very mild difference by themselves. You could feel its weight. While it only weighed 3800lbs, it felt like 4800lbs cruising around town in a Crown Vic. But that rear steering, active aero, and active suspension all came together at 50+mph making it feel like a 2800lb car. Another fun fact, that stock steering wheel weighed like 20+lbs. You could feel the inertia of it when driving It was also so large you couldn't pass your hand under it when it a sportier position (I liked it down when in go fast mode. So I replaced it with a smaller, lighter MoMo (mo like LesLes) wheel, and it punched me in the face when it finally slipped off when removing it because it was so heavy. But going from a 20+lb wheel to a smaller

My dads first car was the 3000GT and he would race it. He said he had no reason to have that as his first car, but hes glad he did. Till he hit a truck going 140miles an hour and cut the truck in half pretty much and kept going, it caught a leak in it and when he went to race again it started knocking and he knew it was a goner, so he took it to the scrap yard and wanted to hear it one more time and when he crank it up it one last time it shot a rod through it.

The second facelift came for the 97 model year (so I guess saying 96 technically isn't wrong, but you never actually showed one. The model you showed is the 99, which received a third facelift for its sendoff year, including the bubbled headlights, black rear garnish, huge front grille, and the massive combat wing. The 99 base model, as well as the 97 and 98 VR4 had that hoop wing. Regardless, I'm glad to see the car I love getting some attention

My son and I love your videos (Landon is 6. No matter what he's doing when he hears you're voice he comes running out of his room. He runs around the house sing 'up and down headlights'. This was the first time that he caught on to some the profanity (even though you bleep it out. I don't remember it being this bad in the past. Oh well, profanity is trending I guess.

Fcuking hell If you keep telling like this I cannot watch your excellent content. STOP YELLING CONSTANTLY A one off bit is funny within an informative video but 15 minutes of obnoxiously loud irony and the same der der humer is tiresome. Please. You're ruining your own content. I would have yelled all of that but that would be annoying: )

The 3000gt also has this cool feature where if your a passenger in the back and the people get out of the front and forget you, you can pop the seat forward from the back and still get out. My wife, before we where married had a na 3000gt and she and her friend would always leave me in the back.

My 1992 3000gt VR-4 went a lot faster than 155mph dude Speedo read 205 plus a notch, and I've had mine up to 185mph in Mexico before we called it Mexico The 3000gt VR-4 wasn't governed. Maybe you are thinking about the 3000gt SL-ow.
