MANUAL TRANSMISSION How it Works Ronald Martinez: We really dont double clutch when driving big rigs, since the transmission is unsynchronized you can actually float gears and not even use the clutch unless you have to make a full stop, a big rig is more forgiving than a regular car transmission or as mu brother would say its semi-automatic you just match the rpms to the speed and the gearshift pops right out and you push it into the next gear, clearly you can do this on a regular car but thats probably not that much of a good idea

Wait. Did you say 1st through 3rd are high gear ratios and 4th is a low gear ratio. I think it is considered the opposite in the auto industry. The gear ratio gets higher and higher the more you shift and the faster you go. It is literally why we call 1st low gear and 4th high gear. I think the presenter knows that but I think when you read a script (always awesome on donut Love you James)Things can be overlooked

Boy do I like watching this guy. Buying my first sports car and definitely going manual But know idea how to drive manual. So been doing little research, I already somewhat understood automatic transmission. My main concern is understanding what goes on with clutch. How and why folks burn out clutch, this video helped me understand the manual transmission. I love the humor always get a smirk out of me.

Not all manual gearboxes are synchro-mesh. My Datsun race car doesn't have synchros and as a result, if I changed down without rev matching the rear wheels would lock up. In modern cars, when you change down you sometimes feel the car jolt before the gear engages, that's the synchros getting the engines rpm in the right range before the gear engages.

Why does it grind if I go from 1st directly to R but not if I go from 1st to 3rd and then R? I read that it's because 1st is too far from R in the gearbox and it doesn't slide in smoothly. Also the manual on my car says that if you shift to 5th incorrectly, it can sometimes fall into 2nd instead. Why is that?

I was jotting down notes so quickly and at around 5: 45, I started writing and I said hold up and stopped as I saw this video get really, really dark about a robot hamster being blended. I wanted to ask if you were okay because I saw how serious his face was lmfao

The only thing I hate about driving a manual (2002 3. 9 V6 dodge Dakota) is that, when Im driving down the highway and I throw it into fifth gear I pretty much immediately have to put it back into 4th as soon as I have to go up a slight incline. Shits annoying

Excuse my ignorance, but what happens exactly that causes an engine stall? Is it that the difference between the wheel torque and crankshaft torque is so extreme that a safety mechanism comes in and turns off the engine to avoid damaging the drivetrain?

Okay so I get how manual transmission works. But can someone explain to me how column mounted manuals work? With modern manuals I can see that the shifter is right on top of the transmission or forwards or backwards of it with a remote shifter.

So you're telling me that teres a box with some gears and then they good vroom vroom but at a certain vroom vroom you gotta hit a pedal to shift and make it go vroomer? that's sorta complicated. Guess I'll watch it again.
