Be careful with 3D Speed! As tempting as it is using these all-in-one products, they are very weak and do not last long under exposure to sun or even a car shampoo where the p. H. balance might be EVER so slightly off. There are a lot of lousy detailers out there that use this stuff and I've seen the aftermath of how it looks after a few washes. It is not at all resilient and all of those swirls and scratches will come right back, as the coating will simply wash away. You MUST seal, seal, seal! Even a basic sealant or lower end ceramic coating is better than nothing.

Toothpaste is going to scratch the paint worse.
Single step will produce a meh finish, not as mirror finished as a polish last step. The grit should be between compound and polish.
The 3 stage will do best since you can have an agressive cut compound then finish it finer with a polish then wax for that mirror finish.
Those are my predictions.

When you started doing the toothpaste I noticed that the buffing pad was getting black (the color of the paint) which could mean its eating thru ur clear coat. Also, it could ve been the highly oxidized number too. I still wouldn t use the toothpaste I would just use the 3 in 1 or the meguiars

The meguiar products you used are pretty old, they leave a lot of dust on the surface and they are hard to remove if you wait too much.
I used them a lot in the past. Now i prefer carpro essence as one step product if the condition of the paint is not bad (not your case)

The 3D products are actually good specially if you have a local store to get them cheaper, the one you used is SPEED which is better for a finishing stage, you should buy the CUT polish wich works better for deeper imperfections I just did my SUV with CUT and it did amazing.

As a part time detailer I completely agree with the 3 and 1 step polishing.
But I would recommend to start with a dual action machine though, which is safer and does the job just as well, slow down your arm speed and clean your pads regularly while polishing.

not only would the colgate not be affective it would be more expensive than the correct way of doing it when quantifying the amount of time you wasted.
also please do not put jackstands on earth like the s14 is doing in the background, even worse just 1.

man i really like the show but seeing this process made me close my eyes in pain several times. If AMMONYC sees you doing the detailing he will cry in pain. See a video of him already going to pick up several things that will make this detail improve a lot.

I can not recommend more than to go for the Meguiars set up. M105 and M110 compounds work wonders, yeah it s a bit expensive but hey! You ll have enough product to set you up for life and maybe you ll learn a new skill and you can make money from it: )

Bought the turtle wax 3 in 1, and it does miracles for 20. It pearls like a normal wax, and brought back the original shine to my brother's 10 year old orange kia.
It also took off all of the light scratches on the 2 cars i did it.
