The 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi was a special car -- and today I'm going to show you why. I'm going to review the original WRX STi, then I'm going to drive it and show you what it's like behind the wheel of the Impreza WRX STi. Patrick: I had a 1999 GT (called the WRX in the UK, and after that ownership experience I'd be really anxious about filling up that intercooler water reservoir. That generation of Imprezas rusted like HELL in the whole area around the rear wheel arches, because they put several layers of metal on top of each without any kind of rust proofing. So pouring water down there. ugh. I actually sold mine because even though the previous owner had work done to both sides, the rust started to come back and I wasn't willing to deal with it. Shame, really really loved that car. I had lusted after one since my teenage days.

Hi Doug I'd want to do an explanation and I hope you can read this. The light height adjustment is not there to replace the fog lights in any manner but it's to adjust the light depth depending on the cabin occupancy (zero is for light weight as just the driver and 1 passenger and 3 is for 5 ppl + luggage in the trunk. By general law, especially in Europe, the light depth must be adjusted manually like that STi when the car comes with halogen bulbs from factory. But when talking about HID's and/or LEDs, the light depth must be automatically adjusted (using a height/torsion sensor in the rear suspension) + light washers in the case of hid bulbs. Fog lights on the STi was not available as an extra item, only was on the WRX (just checked it in 3 magazines of that era I have. Hope this info helps you a bit. Regards from an Italian watching all of your videos in the meanwhile living in Spain Cheers mate

This was my dream car for YEARS. Loved everything about the Subaru scene and threw all the memes and unreliability jokes out of the window. Finally picked up a 05 Wrx Last year and loved every second of it. Blew the first motor in it due to a spun bearing and thought I'd go all out because of the clean body. Bought a brand new Sti Motor straight from subaru (2019 STI Type RA. Did all my research, learned a bunch, and got the engine in all with the help of the internet and some friends. Did the 1000 break in miles, finally got the car tuned and it blew up on my highway drive home in the middle of traffic. Too much work to keep up with as a College kid and I decided to sell it with the blown motor. Ended up being a ringland issue at 1600 miles. Never again. But damn do I miss these cars.

Go see Jay Leno, and see if you can review his DeTomaso Pantera. I specified Jays Pantera due to the fact that when factory stock, they had issues. But when given the proper mods and bug fixes they are generally more coveted among collectors than stock versions. Just see the JLG video regarding it. He has a Pantera expert go into detail about it. I want to see a Doug Score on that, or a similarly fixed Pantera. Other suggestions: 70's Sterling Kit car. (VW chassis)'74 Lancia Stratos. (proper equipment. No LS or dodge engine, or sissymatic tansmission swaps. Dealer, period correct options OK)2020 Corvette'38 Chevy Master Deluxe ( Again, Proper equipment )

Doug, The STi didnt come with floor mats- those were added by the owner. I ordered my non-Noth American market mats from the web. Additionally, there was no stereo provided from the factory- the owner of your car had the WRX factory system put in (by the previous owner, since he didnt let you know. I had to go to a stereo shop and get a system installed when I bought mine new back on the day. Also, dont forget the Brembo brakes were exotic back in 2004. Only Ferraris and Porsches came with Brembo brakes until the 350Z, Evo and STi brought them to the masses. I sold my STi in 2012, and I still miss it.

The thing you said about the Foglights is wrong. I have a 2003 UK spec Blobeye, the headlight level adjusters were not a replacement for foglights. My Scooby has foglights with the covers over them and also has the level adjuster. The car in the video probably has foglights underneath the covers that only come on when the lights are turned to high beam. I didnt realise my car had foglights until someone showed me a picture of my car with headlights on hi beam and there was a glow behind the covers lol

Headlight adjustment: to ensure that the headlights do not blind oncoming traffic in case the car is loaded. This was mandatory for halogen lights (xenon was mandated to have an automatic adjustment. This is not meant as a fog light replacement, what a strange idea. There is a reason why foglights are way low. Also the headlights per design have range of rays going up for sign bridges etc.

10: 30 the headlight adjustment is nothing to do with performance or replacing fog lights. In the European market it is mandatory to have vertically adjustable or self levelling dipped beam headlights to prevent dazzling oncoming drivers when you have a large load on the rear axle (ie. towing or something heavy in the trunk.

Hi Doug. Here in Portugal i use that switch next to the steering wheel, the one that controls the head light's up and down position in case i have a fully loaded trunk, so you dont blind the upcoming traffic, not for foggy day conditions. But now i'm not sure anymore for what is it for LOL. Really like your videos

The absolute best era of Subaru's right there. I've worked on some more modern cars and honestly Subaru are going backwards in many ways. These were so much better. Of course the GC8 Impreza has a special place in everyone's heart thanks to Colin McRae but this era of Impreza was probably even better.
