I dont hate it, its the best thing I can say about a range rover. I mean, if you plan to take it off road in a national park in the US, one day away from home, its gonna be spectacular. My fears come when you compare it with the old one. The old one was a mess in terms of reliability, but those who had them, could fix almost everything in the middle of nowhere and keep them somehow running until they reach the next car garage. It was used in Africa, it was used in South America. I wonder what would happen if I buy one of these to replace my Patrol and take it to Namibia, will someone know how to fix a failure on the suspension? will someone be able to get parts? those are my thoughts on this car. its good? I dont doubt it but. can it be used as the old one?
I know its not what it is designed for and I know they know their market, but I would like to see that someone thinks about those who want to explore the world, because right now, its either an old Land Cruiser, an old Patrol or an old Defender.

Doug, you kept saying that the Defender is meant to go off road and is not meant for cruising the suburbs, but you didn t give us enough detail as to why or how the Defender is capable off road. I understand the more durable interior features, but what does it have mechanically beyond the turbo 6? What is the suspension? Are there locking differentials? Skid plates? 2 speed transfer case? The durable interior brings the level of luxury down to almost Wrangler Rubicon levels, but I want to know how the car makes up for that in the mechanical department. Why is the Defender as tested price of 75K worth the 32K difference when compared to the 43K base price of a Rubicon Unlimited?

The bronco, g wagen and wrangler were all able to preserve their designs much more than this thing. The bronco and wrangler have removable tops as well. While the fj cruiser lacks a removable top and old school design, it went with something very postmodern and funky, similar to your s-cargo. This defender is utterly ordinary looking inside and out and isn t even a convertible. There is zero novelty here, unlike any of its competitors. You might as well be driving an x5 or gle, which is fine, but not for something called the defender

Oh man, just finished watching this review. I can t tell you how bad I want this car. Makes me want to put on a jacket and head into the wilderness. I love the new infotainment and the dash. And the rear of the car gave me chills, growing up I ve seen a lot of imported 110s and 90s from Africa and always found them so rough. A for effort. If there s one car that I can commit to for a decade, this would be it. Good job Doug.

Wow. IMO Land Rover has hit a home run with the new Defender. Very practical and nice durable materials used on the interior for offroad. It looks like Land Rover fixed the awful glitchy infotainment screens but we will see. I do really like this new Defender and i think Land Rover will sell a lot of these.

idk how I feel, it is a cool car and I like it's design, but the old defender was the epitome of if it isn't there, it can't break and even that had some reliability issues, but this has a lot of features, add that with land rover reliability and you don't have a very reliable car

I really like the new car. I ve seen negative comments from the Defender purists but I love the styling and interior and I think Land Rover did an amazing job at taking this 37 year old design and updating for the 21st century. I can t wait to drive it after lockdown.

IIRC, I believe you can get a fixie suspension on the base trim model. Some of the off-road packs force the air suspension upgrade. Given the track record with the air suspension reliability, I'd probably steer clear.
Edit: Nevermind - I was wrong!

See if its reliable. That will be the important part. Is the engine and transmission and electronics and suspension a car you want when its 7 or 10 or 15 years old. If it is reliable then resale helps sell a lot of cars.

Doug, have you ever reviewed the Nissan Armada? I haven't found much for videos on them. You should do a video comparing brands regular and luxury vehicles. Like the Infiniti QX80 compared to the Nissan Armada and so on.
