Hey Doug, here are a few things you should consider when reviewing evs:
-Does it have a heat pump? This can really make the difference in cold weather range and performance
-Level 3 charge ability/speed. Most new evs will have level 3 ability but the speed at which they charge can vary greatly. For example, the Bolts can do about 50kwh max while the Kona can do around 70kwh, and the rates seem to be increasing with newer models all the time. This can have a big impact on how long you need to charge on a road trip.
-Battery cooling. Regulating battery temperature is one of the most important things in maintaining battery health. Almost all evs use liquid cooling. except the Leaf. Do not buy a Leaf.
I just bought a 2020 Bolt and had to look into all these things before deciding to buy it. I really like it so far even though there are better things on the market now.

For people that live no where near a Tesla dealer, this car takes the point. I do realize Tesla have mobile repair services. Living in western Kentucky, the nearest Tesla dealer is in Ohio. (I think) I m near 6 Chevy dealers. There maybe only a few that can service or repair them, but I would think that that still is a better service experience. And the price is much less than a Tesla. I m still not sure I m ready for an electric car.

It just occurred to me while you were discussing the range/price trade off: As EVs become more widely mandated, they re going to put more inconvenience on people with less money. Assuming both drivers obey the speed limit, the least expensive ICE car in the world can go just as far just as fast as the most expensive ICE car. But with EVs, if you have a smaller budget, you get less range and have to deal with charging more often

I have two thirsty V8s and a Taurus that's threatening to munch the transmission. I only drive about 14 miles per day and have been in the market for a used Nissan Leaf. They GIVE them away and for 10 grand I can get one only a couple years old.

The thing that kills this is that the charging speed is still 50kW. The ID. 4, Mach-E, even the Leaf can do >100kW. While this is still cheaper, it's a hard sell especially for people who want to take it on trips. Regardless of Supercruise.

Damn, please tell me this isn't what the car market is progressing into? The idea of a egg shaped pod as a vehicle is so sad to me. Cars used to be an extension of people's personalities, no matter the price point. what happened to that?

I think Doug is the only person I've heard say that he thinks the smaller bolt EV is better looking. although I do kinda get what he means. it looks different and a lot more quirky which is obviously what Doug likes

This can be a really great car for the people who is changing a gas powered car from an electric one Considering that it has a power button so that the driver doesnt get confused or lock anxiety
