Here Are All the Weird Quirks of My Dodge Viper

I bought a Dodge Viper, and these are its weird quirks. kickinbackinOC: The Gen2 pedals are offset to the left of the steering wheel center, to clear the transmission tunnel. This was made necessary because the engine is so far back in the chassis. In fact, the engine is set so far back that it's almost a front mid engine. The Gen 2 rear view mirrors are from a Dodge Dakota. (I think the rack + pinion steering rack is also from a Dakota)Gen 2 front fender reflectors are from a Freightliner truck. Gen 2 rear brake calipers are from a Renault Alpine, or some kind of Renault. Gen 2- If you scrape the bottom of the front fascia on the pavement, the second bottom fascia screw from the passenger side will poke a hole in the coolant overflow tank. Some guys shorten this screw. I never did mine. no scrape, no problem. Gen 2 lumbar support is completely manual, you squeeze a rubber ball until inflate the cell to your desired firmness. Kinda quirky. Gen 2 The Sneaky Pete snake head logo is embossed into the under-hood insulation. On a humid night when dew is settling and the engine is still warm, this snake head character magically transfers to the top side of the hood, illustrated in the misty dew on the hood (Wowzers)Gen 2 Door mirrors and windows controls are on the center console, instead of on the doors. Further charming weirdnessGen 2 You have to burp it, to get the cooling system topped off. Gen 2 Fuel filter is tucked into the rear frame rail, about as inaccessible as could be dreamed upGen 2 Battery is aft of the left rear wheel. (Of course) Gen 2 Rear wheels have a toe-in adjustment. Not sure if this is common or not. Dodge had a special tool. Gen 2 has a double-bubble roof, to allow more headroom for driving with a helmet on. Gen 2 (GTS) To access the in-tank fuel pump, you have to remove the trunk carpet, and cut a hole through the trunk liner, just above the fuel tank.

I do have to laugh a little that he climbs into the back to use the emergency door release. I am only 5'6 (so not the longest arms) and the one time I needed to use this feature on my '01 GTS, I opened the trunk and just simply reached around from the side and popped it open.

This was my dream car when I was a teenager. Was so gorgeous when it came out. Love the original design and the GTS design. Shocked me how small it was in person and inside. Looked so big in posters. Drove it once and def not a daily driver. Lol

Did you ever drive it in the rain? I ask because I heard the early GTSs had potential issues with leaking above the rear view mirror as well as the side door window areas where the exposed glass meets the weather stripping.

Doug, how is it you haven't driven a Dodge Stratus aka Chrysler Sebring or even an intrepid? I guess a viper is more badass than a long, low RAM sedan. I've got 190, 000 and slowly rusting Find one

You forgot that you cant put in the battery under the hood. you have to remove the rear drivers tire, also the seatbelt is only that way in the gts and acr, its normal in the regular vipers

Those cars don't respect anyone or thing. Its a monster shrouded in fiberglass ready to chew your face off and disintegrate your body into a fine red mist. Sounds like fun XD.

Yeah that's what I do on my gen 3 when my battery runs out. pop the hood, hook up a jump starter then open my door. Needs to get jumped anyway if the battery is flat: P

You can buy a low-milage used Subaru BRZ for the same price as a Dodge Viper hood. Then you can get a decent Turbo kit for that BRZ for the price of 4 Dodge Viper tires.
