2022 Toyota Tundra review! The 2022 Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup truck - and it's fully redesigned for the 2022 model year. Today I'm reviewing the newly redesigned Toyota Tundra, and I'll show you all the quirks and features of the new Tundra. I'm also going to drive the new Toyota Tundra and I'll review the driving experience

Sorry Doug - You missed the boat on this. The number one reason, which you briefly mentioned at the end - in passing, is that Toyota is a known for million mile trucks. The service and reliability is the number one reason people choose it. Everything else is just gravy. If you're going to be spending 60-85K on a truck there's a segment of the population that want it to just work. And they want it to work for 10 years. Or 20. If your scores were weighted for reliability, there wouldn't be another truck that would come close to the Tundra.

Here's the trick to getting in the back of the pickup. You don't need side steps or anything else in fact it's kind of funny that you mention have side steps on the side when you right there next to the key, the tire. The tire works very well as a step. You've got one on each side, and ot big enough that you can keep both your feet on it at the same time while doing something in the bed.

I like their line of thinking with the new power plant, however the execution leaves me puzzled. It would seem more fitting in a family mover non-enthusiast vehicle such as a base Sequoia, 4 Runner, or Tundra. Leave the special purpose vehicles naturally aspirated. The only other thing that I would change would be wider more aggressive tires.

This isn't a raptor fighter, not even close. Its suspension may be upgraded, but its not a mid travel level suspension system like whats on the raptor and TRX. the marker lights are merely there due to the slightly wider fender flares that in themselves are only wider due to the TRD wheels having a slightly greater offset then on other trims.

If Toyota wants to cater to modern American truck owners, they'd add three LED light bars, color changing rings around the headlights, hi beams that can burn out retinas, lights in the wheel wells, get rid of all off-road options and replace buttons with light controllers, and bundled gift cards to Starbucks and Whole Foods.

I like the idea of a hybrid, I feel like not only will it be more efficient but it will also extend the life of those turbos which is my biggest worry about the standard V6. I'll be holding on to my 17 Tundra though until all the bugs get worked out from the new generation and hopefully get a Pro model in a decade or so.

No V8? Not even as an option? Ewww. It's not even a matter of V8s being cooler, it's the fact that you're putting smaller components under heavier loads and increasing the mechanical complexity when you stick a turbo on a little engine. I wonder how many of them will still be on the road in 10 years.
reply

No doubt this is mechanically a reliable/solid truck (though I do wonder if the twin turbo V6 will have anywhere near the 300k-400k life span of the previous 4. 7 and 5. 7 V8's, but I can't help but feel like this is way over styled and seems to be compensating for something.

This is what I hate about Toyota. They drag out a generation until it's just old as dirt (last gen tundra) then when they FINALLY update it they don't really do it as good as everyone else when it comes to bells and whistles and creature comforts

Minus the lack of tow hooks, I think the new Tundra has my pick. I was concerned about the lack of a V8 and the turbo longevity, but it's Toyota: they have a history of knowing how to make engines that handle boost well.
