HONDA OF EL CAJON The 2019 Honda Passport is Honda's rugged new SUV. Today I'm reviewing the new 2019 Honda Passport so show you all the ins and outs of the Passport -- and I'm driving the Passport to give you my full opinion of the new Honda Passport SUV

Thank you for the review. There were a couple areas your knowledge is deficient in. one major one is drive modes. Sand. One of the features of sand mode is the torque vectoring rear diff can do a locker feature which I am not sure many/any others in this segment can. In addition there is always a minimum of 5% power going to the rear wheels which helps with stability and immediate reaction time for awd. The torque vectoring rear diff (very few in this segment have a torque vectoring rear diff) also can send 100% of the power coming to the rear to one rear wheel or the other with the most grip (which is up to 70% of that available) where most of the competitor's systems are an open diff requiring brake application to move power from one side to the other. Plus this diff sends more thrust to the outside rear wheel to assist in cornering control. which if you viewed that awd page on the dash you didn't care for you would have been able to observe. With power going to all 4 wheels it is a very stable vehicle in poor traction conditions. Where I live it is not unknown to have snow on the ground for 6 months of the year so when I researched all of the competitors to the passport this awd system really stood out. Of course buying a vehicle like this is all about individual needs and just being two of us now a 3rd row seat was not needed. Towing capacity (5000#) is decent as well. I plan on towing a couple motorcycles with a total weight under 3000# so it should work out fine. I've had it a month and so far I really don't have any dislikes but as I traded my 2017 camaro 2ss for this I do notice the power difference. By the way Car and Driver in a comparison test got 5. 8 seconds 0-60. obviously a good day, good tires, probably cool temps. quickest of the competitors in this segment that was present in their test. The extended warranty is the cheapest in the segment which probably means Honda doesn't plan on having too many reliability issues. As to your bewilderment at the adjustment to the outside temp gauge that allows a correction factor to be applied if needed. which to be honest I didn't know about till watching your review - many thanks. Good review. I looked at everything - Q5, Mecan, X5, Stelvio, new blazer - demoed them some for extended times (total of 4+ hours for the passport alone) and I kept coming back to the Honda. Interestingly it ended up being the least expensive. This works for me but we are all different. They are all good vehicles.

Doug needs to do more research on the cars he reviews BEFORE doing videos on them, as he says I guess too much instead of knowing. Yes, Doug, the drive modes on the Passports really DO change the drive-train mapping (as they also do on the Pilot, like my 2016 EX-L AWD. The programs were developed on location as tests/driving data were done in Minnesota (snow mode, Moscow Russia (mud mode) and Dubai (sand mode) -- and many other locations Honda says. And they're pretty good (I use sand mode most often out here in West Texas desert. Since the Pilot and Passport share these modes -- and the outstanding iVTM4 AWD system as well -- BOTH cars are VERY good doing mild off-roading but are also very good in inclement weather (snow/rain. -- BR

The screen turns green if you are conserving gas? Welcome to any Honda vehicle since 2007. You mean the green button that says Econ means economy mode? And they display it on the gauge cluster? HOW DARE THEY. You mean the off-road option from Honda has options to change the road surface? Why would they do that? You just said companies are getting rid of tachometers yet judge Honda for giving you the option to keep it on or turn it off? Oh no. Finally its Hondas fault because the consumer keeps that bumper sticker on the car?

Looked at the CR-V. absolutely DESPISE the gear shifter placement on that car because it makes the interior look mini-van-ish. no thanks. Came to check out the Passport, and it's even worse - no gear shifter at all. Pushbuttons? For chrissakes Honda, did you FIRE any and all of your engineers and designers who actually DRIVE cars anymore? I need a SHIFTER, and I need it between the seats where it belongs, morons. When you design cars that actually respect drivers again, let me know.

For the oil life A is part of the Maintenance Codes Minder. A = simple oil change service at the next service interval. If the Honda had more miles it might show B which would be additional maintenance items at next oil change (typically inspections of brakes or other systems) and numbers. In new Honda infotainment systems you can see them all for the specific car and reset them once performed.

Practical-Dependable-Reliable. The hallmark of every Honda/Acura I have ever owned since 1982. That's 37 years w/o a single repair bill, not ONE Just normal maintenance, oil, tires, brakes and Timing belt/CV boots every 100k. Sure, this is a niche car, just so happens it fall's directly into my niche. Buy one used in 2021 for under 20k and it's a home run in my book.

I've not been done some research on the temperature gauge but I guess Honda men offer this vehicle an offset setting of adjusting outside temperature for the extreme condition such as high altitude since they position Passport an off-road SUV. Some meters are based on the altitude of atmosphere that have inherently errors due to the variance of altitude sensors.

Used to work at a Honda dealership, not sure exactly what they mean because it's been a while. The a on oil life is a type of service reminder they have a1, ab1, b1, and so on and so forth. The a usually refers to oil changes and b usually tire rotations so if you had an ab1 light you'd be due for and oil change and tire rotation

How does anybody not realize that this is a commercial? He just borrowed a new SUV? Go to your local dealership and tell them that you want to borrow a vehicle to do a YouTube video. This guy is a Shill that should not be trusted. Thats the worst part. 99% of people watching dont realize that this guy is being paid by Honda.

It is JUST IGNORANT to place the critical shifting buttons right next to the sloshing drinks. only a few car designers have the skills to prevent this situation. Honda designers did a fair job with the CRV. Personally, I would like two locations at the same time. 1) steering wheel2) Front of the right hand arm rest.
