The Buick Grand National is the ultimate 1980s muscle car. Today I'm reviewing the Grand National to show you why the Buick Grand National is special -- and I'm driving the Grand National, and I'm taking you on a tour of the Grand National's quirks and features

I'm not sure how old Doug is, but his reactions to some of the quirks and features of the cars he drives are crazy. The non-power remote mirrors were on just about every car from that era. I remember the cable on my driver-side mirror of my 1974 Impala snapping one day. The 85-mile-per-hour speedometer was a government mandate at the time (I think that started in 1975, so even performance cars had to have them. GM seat belt buckles always had GM on them, no matter what division (except Cadillac, maybe.

Manufacturers need to start making cars super simple and mechanical again. Watching this turned into a massive nostalgia trip for me. Absolutely love and miss terribly the simplicity of cars and how easy everything was back then. Always had a milk crate with basic tools bungie tied in the trunk of my 79 Pontiac Bonneville coupe and I could fix or replace anything that ever happened to stop working on most cars and it would maybe take half an hour to an hour tops. God I miss the old days.

Really, Doug? Surprising that its that quick? For that AGE? OMG My '02 Regal GS with the supercharged 3. 8 is still impressive in the day of 300hp Hondas, and it has 250k miles. I can smoke the tires so awesomely that non-car people are impressed. And I can take twisties with ease with the Gran Touring suspension. I love my car, and I am almost offended by your knocking of the forced-induction 3. 8 Buick Regals. Turbocharged and Supercharged 3. 8 Buicks are EXCELLENT sleepers

Regan passed a law that limited speedometers to 85 to try and keep kids from speeding they thought if you didnt know how fast you were going they wouldnt try so all spedos in cars back then went to 85 in every car and a funny fact when the filmed back to the future they had to build a custom Speedo face to go to 95 so you could see they were going 88 however in the actual movie car the speedo only went to 85 and you can see it in some shots

I just stumbled across this video. I don't know anything about you except the fact that you are very ignorant of a lot of basic car knowledge. 85Mph was standard. Fisher Body was a division of GM. And all factory sound systems, if you chose that option, were lousy. I applaud your effort, but you need to bone up on history before producing videos like this.

Great video, as usual. Likely already posted in the 10k + comments, but. (Doug, youre 15 years too young)Wiki- On September 1, 1979 in a regulation that also regulated speedometer and odometer accuracy, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) required speedometers to have special emphasis on the number 55 and a maximum speed of 85mph (140km/h.

I used to race GN's on the service drive while cruisin gratiot back in the day. I had a monte ss with a zz3 crate engine dropped in, TCI 700r4 and AC baby. I used to edge out GN's everytime. I built my car to beat mustangs. These late 80s early 90s GT's pissed me off. My Monte was cousins with the Grand National. Beautiful car.

It also has a very similar body style to the chevy monte carlo, Pontiac Grand Prix, and the Oldsmobile cutlas surpremes of the same years, (they're calledg body, but you most likely knew that) personally I like the monte carlos the best, I also like the Oldsmobiles my mother owns a 1986 and its very nice.

Ah, 1980s GM. yep, I remember it well. All of my extended family members worked for them and I remember all the things like the seatbelt buckles saying GM on them. I remember everyone in the family only bought GM cars. Anyway, this car looks like it wouldve awesome to have during that era for sure

I believe that almost all cars from the 80's had 85 mil per hour speedometers. I think it had to do with federal regulations and the federal 55 mph h. w speed limits. i've buried the speedometers in all manner of 80's vehicles. notably a stock s10 with the 6 banger. and a 84 firebird
