My rear tires were cupping, everyone had a guess, worn out struts, alignment, out of balance, and so on. The Honda people took a long look at everything and discovered the tires, purchased from Costco, had sidewalls that allowed too much flex. I learned a valuable lesson about OEM things, like the tires. GoodYear Eagles were OEM and now the only tire I'd put on it. Costco? No way. Eagles online are cheaper than Costco tires.

Scotty, I have a 2003 Pathfinder with 98k, the front is pulling left even after an alignment, I needed new struts up front so I d replaced the entire unit on each side with new kyb struts and springs, the outer tie rod end and lower ball joint rubber housings look fine and there is no excess play from either. Where would you look next, stuck caliper? It does veer left when I apply the brakes. Thanks

My dad got a Ford Flex brand new, and the hankook tires in the front are flaking almost like someone took their keys and started chipping away at them. It's only at 11, 000 miles and id say 5000 were from the highway. We don't know if there's an alignment problem or if we got stuck with a bad set of tires from the dealership. I also think it's about time to do an oil change but my dad is really lazy.

Hey Scotty, I'm up north in Montreal where the winters are brutal sometimes, and I have to store winter/summer tires for the given season. Would you suggest I spray some AT-205 Re-seal on them after I clean them (removing debris from treads as well) before I put them in plastic bags to store? I'm hoping this will help the tread last longer as I only do less than 4K miles a year.

If sticky weights are falling off it can also indicate the wheels are being overheated due to excessive breaking or stuck closed brake calipers. I work at a tire install shop. Sticky weights tend to be a pain to remove and clean the residue, only a few times out of the year do i have the complaint and usually the wheels are scorching hot or the weights were installed on a dirty surface.

The obviously broken things were all replaced in an 87 ford ranger, took it to Sears service center for the just the alignment, the tech said all those parts needed replacement before alignment, said they were really worn. Showed them receipt, told them I did it already. They voided warranty but did alignment anyways, wrote on receipt customer refused to replace tech suggested parts.

Also about alignments, if you replace your tie-rod ends, or any other front end parts, you can set the toe of your tires by measuring between the front of the front tires and the back of the front tires. The front should be 1/2 to3/4 incnes closer or shorter, than the back of the tire. But Definitely take it to the auto shop of your choice and have the alignment professionally done.

Explain how to find a GOOD mechanic. Between the guy who can't fix a lawnmower and the guy who always wants to replace everything. For example I have truck that needs front end work. That should not mean every part including new brake lines, valve stem radiator. You know the type. I need one to explain what's wrong and what part needs new what can be junkyard part
