Heres What Used Police Cars are Like in England William Oakes: Considered buying a very similar car a few years back before I bought a manual 330d touring (non police. Key downsides to ex police cars is that it will have: A) been in the body shop many times having rammed other cars off the road, B) driven over speed bumps and off-roaded at excess speed regularly C) left to idle for far too long building up carbon throughout the system, D) had scag heads in the back pissing themselves, bleeding and throwing up all over it (Appreciate youve changed the seats)E) police spend a lot of time in reverse at speed that knackers most of the manual boxes. Ive heard stories of the second copper having to hold the stick in reverse as the other hits the limiter in reverse going backward up hard shoulders on motorways (less of an issue with an auto and impressive to hear of the German service option)F) holes drilled in the roof, dashboard and grills etc from where all the equipment has been (lights cameras and radios etc. Not to mention the faded paint where the vinyls not been covering it up. G) youll never get an m-sport ex police car, theyre always the cheaper and less sporty SE models. All that aside theyre cheap and work for the right people but theyre never going to be a show car. The engines a peach and takes/ appreciates the hammer it gets in this role. The gearbox is brilliant on this car and will take the stick its given especially with a service. The timing chain is only an issue on cars (including n57) with infrequent oil changes as lack of proper lubrication is what cause them to stretch and fail. not being hammered. In summary, works for some but not for me (Im now on my 3rd 330d and love them. but wouldnt get an ex police version)Lastly the 335 or 535 only come as auto options and the fuel economy is lost with the addition of a second turbo. Just map the 30d and itll produce as much power and torque whilst retaining economy. (Mine has just shy of 300bhp and massive torque)

hate to break it to you but these represent a minority of British police cars the standard issue vehicles are normally Vauxhall Astras and prior to this we used vectras for the majority of the police force. Cars like these are mostly used by specialist traffic units or are work cars for superior officers, you will also find Volvos used for this purpose. My local police station has one undercover black 3 series, a couple of Volvo 4x4s and the rest all Astras I used to live in a bigger town approx 250k people where there were couple more bmws but all undercover vehicles, weirdly enough one of them was a 1 series with a 1. 6 engine but again Vauxhalls dominate the field.

Ive seen a few comments talking about police engine maps. The police cars have the same engine map as the standard cars. Anecdotally police cars feel a bit revvier because they are run hard, from the start, but receive very thorough, very regular servicing. The only mechanical difference for police spec is the rear suspension is uprated to cope with the fact they carry a lot of weight all the time. Not to nitpick, but the F10 258bhp 530d saloon achieves 0-60mph in 6. 0 seconds in standard civilian trim (and 0-62mph in 6. 3, an F11 estate is heavier to the effect of being about 2 tenths slower. 6 seconds is nothing to complain about, of course.

My favourite police rocket has to be the police special Rover 827 Vitesse pursuit cars, seriously fast cars, the Rover SD1 twin plenumd V8s were fairly swift too but for me the BMW of choice is the V12 750il with the full Alpina package, serious serious fast motor that would give some supercars a run for their money. Another fine police special was the Metropolitan Polices SPG short wheelbase Ford Transits, with a jaguar back axle and a tuned V6 up front and tightened suspension made them superb corner takers at speed, making them superb London pursuit vehicles.

Used police cars have been abused, thrashed and driven to mechanical failure, crash damage is never recorded, the cockpit is full of holes from all the added electrical equipment. Saying these cars are highly maintained and serviced on time is a myth, the cars are working 24/7 and need to be turned around quick. Selling it on will be a problem. If you still think buying one is a good idea go ask a police officer if they would buy one lol.

After owning a bmw for the past 4 years I would never buy another fsh or not. Bmws have way too many rubber o rings n shitty plastic hoses etc to be reliable after 6 8 years they have problem after problem. 2 mechanics have said after 10 years theyre junk. Owned a honda civic 93 model, and 2 honda motorbikes, peugeots VWs and honda are miles above the rest. For 8 grand you could got a nice honda accord 2. 4l sport waaaaaaay better car imo.

1: 58 Something isnt right about the log book with thisRegistered keeper states chief constableYet it is technically a company car. Have a look what name is on the MOTOnly in the insurance papers should it state the driver. Officers in the UK are not allowed to use privately owned vehiclesI only comment because you stated this was a patrol car

its a german nazi piece of common trash, i hate german cars, expecially the modern cheap, I honestly would not accept a lift in that car, whoever bought it proves they have no taste, and they are common with the taste of a immigrant. its heavy and pollutes everywhere, plus its so big you can hardly drive it in england you fool. common fool.

So I used to have Toyotas, Chevrolets, Hyundais and Mazdas and I used to change their oil every 8, 000kms (5, 000 miles) with zero problems and now, I got a BMW 230i xDrive and they (along with this guy) say I dont need to change oil until every 16, 000kms (10, 000 miles. Is this proven to be okay? Feels kind of excessive. :/

Do not buy BMW. Quality lower than Fiat. Very expensive after sale service and very very arrogant staff in any garage. I hope BMW will be shout down soon. No respect for clients and money waist. I have already got expensive experience I was struggled with brand new BMW through 4 years. Thank you no more tears and fears.
