The Truth About Hybrid Cars Frank Stith: I guess my 2016 Honda CRV has a conventional CVT, and I love it. Decent gas mileage (better than my wifes 2016 RAV4 in town or loaded on a long trip) and you dont feel the constant shifting of gears when cruise is set at 75 mph in my Honda that is happening in the RAV4. I have 30k plus miles now, and maybe it wont last to see 100k, but it has been a joy to drive so far. Oh, I also love the heated seats, right side blind spot camera, the push button start and ability to lock or open a locked car without getting the key fob out of your pocket or purse, not to mention the single lever to fold down the back seats when you are reaching in from the hatch. My wifes car wont do that either. Lol, No I do not work for Honda And I am not being paid for this endorsement.

My mom had a 2007 Toyota Prius for the past almost 10 years, I was driving it a few weeks back coming down a hill, and two trucks came around, one lost a tire which slammed into the front of the car, denting the hood and throwing up a check engine light. It began making weird noises so I think something was wrong with the electric motor. It had over 200 thousand miles on it by this point, so the insurance company was only gonna give us 1600 for totaling it. We managed to sell it to someone for 2k instead, actually it was the owner of the waste company who owned the trucks. So that saved us a lot of hassle. Its sad to think about though, my mom has driven that thing for so long and loved it every second, and now its probably at a junk yard.

Most of the taxi cabs here are those. Some of them bring their cars to the Toyota dealer I work at for servicing, pushing 200, 000 city miles on the original engine, transmission, and battery pack. Toyota hybrid cars are dead reliable. The 6 years Ive worked there Ive only seen 3 cars come in for a battery pack failure. One Prius taxi, and 2 highlanders. But theyre expensive to fix. One of the Highlanders couldnt justify the repair bill so the owner traded it in on the spot for a non-hybrid Highlander. Sales dept couldnt justify the repair bill too to sell the damn thing so they hauled it out for auction.

My 2005 Prius has required only a couple of repairs between 129, 000 miles and 170, 000 miles Ive owned it. Coolant diverter valve new tires 2 bose speakers and battery balancing plus oil and filters cost me 1000 over 3 years and mpg 29-51 saved me a couple of thousand dollars. And the hatchback closes with 8 lumber inside so leave your F150 at home when you go to Home Depot in the rain. People tailgate you more than in other cars though. Lots of drivers HATE Prius owners rightfully so for their tortoise driving habits.

My Prius has been flawlessly reliable and has over 98, 000 miles on it. Runs as good as day one. MPG is as advertised (unlike some other hybrids. Best car I have ever owned and they are not slow. They have no V-belts, no alternator, and no starter to fail. The battery lasts a long time and if a cell module goes bad you dont have to change the entire pack. No wonder Toyota sells so many of them. Oh, and I can fit my Great Dane in the back seat.

Got a 97 Lincoln MK VIII had recently bought it. But problem is the damn heater works but the blend door actuator/mechanism is broken so its constantly blowing cold air in upstate NY temps. Had looked at it myself. Very hard to find parts. Shops cant do anything about it. Sucks because I love the damn thing. Fun car to drive. Runs great. Hard to rig the thing without further issues. Any advice?

The prius does not have typical CVT. It has a e-cvt that is mainly driven by a electric motor and assisted by the gas engine. It has also proven to be a reliable car, with a couple issues. Such as the inverter pump, instrument cluster and abs pump. Toyota gave extended warranty on all those items and hybrid barriers tend to last a long time unless the car is not driven allot. Typically from 150k to 200k.

Im hoping to upgrade to an 09 Toyota Prius maybe in 5yrs because they seem to be really good cars, though I hear some people hate them for some reason. For now we just bought an 02 Honda CR-V, I read great reviews while researching for a newer car. Prior to the Honda we had a 99 Chevy Astro for about 3yrs, I called it, The Tyrannosaurus Rex. Ill just leave it at that ha

My father in law bought a red Prius when they first came out I never liked the shape of it, my father in law died in 2014 and my mother in law who does not drive still has it she lets her grand sons drive it to get her stuff or take her some where. I should say ex Mother in law I got divorced this year. That car does not make a sound like te engine is not on.

Does a Toyota (03) Prius have steering fluid? Is coolant (engine and inverter) a DIY task or too much risk (getting the right test mode(s) on/off, etc? I like to do my own maintenance and oil, filter, transaxle fluids are super easy but I havent tries coolant (yet. That was all dealer so far. I have AutoEngenuity V11 with full Toyota licensing if that helps.
