Slim Jim Hackett - the age 65 former office furniture big-wig who stepped up into the Ford engine room, when the board (and by board I mean the Ford family) pureed Mark Fields, you remember that. anyway, Slim Jim earned US17. 8 million last year. Thats about 25 million Shitsvillian micro-pesos. More than enough for a good time with your trousers on. Hacketts pay jumped six percent. Fords profits dropped by more than 50 percent and the share price tanked about 40 percent. If 18 million - near enough - is what you get for dropping the ball, whats the bonus for actually succeeding? So, to put this in perspective, Hacketts pay is about 50, 000 a day (US) (times 365 days - its that kind of gig - hes on-call. Which is, incidentally, 276 times greater than the 64, 000 a year median Ford workers pay. You could look at this another way: If the year starts on a Monday by about 10: 30 on Tuesday morning, Hackett has made more than you will in one year, when you are that average Ford worker. Does that seem reasonable? Is anyone worth that? I mean, his duties are fairly straightforward: Slash jobs, close plants, exit the North American sedan market, drop 11 billion on restructuring and lose just over half a billion in China (and that was just in the last quarter of 2018. Still, 25 million, to drive a sinking ship to the bottom of the Mariana trench. Does that seem reasonable to you? Is anyone actually worth that?

Original VW bug (not the superbug)Original Morris Mini (stick preferred, but they made them all the way to 2000)Holden Commodore (VN-VYII) the 1989 - 2004 had a old school Buick engine but updated with EFI, abit pricey on fuel today but you literally can't kill them and like the above two, easy & cheap to work on if something ever did go wrong. HG Kingswood with the straight 6 red motor, reliable for It's time but damn one of the easiest cars I've ever worked on. everything is just right there in front of you & parts are easy and cheap to getI don't agree with Toyota or lexus Being reliable, but they are cheap to fix. One things for sure though, with most cars, the younger they are, the worst built they are.

Good advice Scotty. I purchased a new 1975 VW Rabbit (I am old. Motor Trend recommended and a new model at the time. It was fun car to drive but a money pit. Always something that was an adjustment and not covered by warranty. Electrical problems galore. Ironically my son recently mentioned that a guy he worked with bought a new Jetta because it was a great deal. My son warned him about electrical problems but he bought it anyway. Guess what. The car has been a series of electrical problems for the guy. 40 years later and VW still is nicht gut. LOL.

84-94 Toyotas seem to be in the running for dependability, and if need to cheapest to repair. I have replace parts that finally wore out. aka starter just this year (2019, to typical repairs. aka tune ups, brake jobs etc. My 84 Toyota 4x4 truck has been modified and maintained by me and only me, and is the only Toyota I have ever owned and never regretted it. Simple to work on and does really well off road. Dont shy away from a vehicle just because it is a Toyota or Lexus, could be one of the best investments youll ever make.

It's a fact I'm a 3rd party containment supervisor/inspector and go into car assembly plants and parts suppliers and inspect discrepant parts and quarantine them. Bad parts can be run at anytime and have to be sorted, but when there is a new model year a lot of the parts are different because the car has undergone changes prompting new components to be made and the bugs have to be worked out. Until cars are made from the inside out you will always have issues from 10's of thousands of different parts.

First few years of the 4th gen 4runner (2003/2004/2005) with the 6 cylinder (the majority of them) blow headgaskets long before 200K miles. Some time in 2005, Toyota switched head gaskets and the incidence of blown head gaskets dropped off, according to the informal data that is being collected in the 4runner forums. Private individuals are building vast spreadsheets of data, for pattern analysis. Just search google for v6 4runner head gasket request, go to that link and go to page 5.

agree Celica/Corolla like Scotties probably are amongst the longest lived cars but come on who would seriously want a prolonged motoring world of pure mediocrity? at least something French Italian or German would at least give you some sort of emotional experience other than complete mindless boredom even if that involves pain The only interesting Toyota since the 2jz powered Supra/Soarer is a BMW Supra that really speaks volumes about passionless Toyota engineering in my opinion

My sister has a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I guess they must have two fans. One mechanic said he didn't see it, another said he found it but it doesn't work right, a friend of hers said the second fan is there, but he thought it might be to prevent overheating when going up steep terrain. We're confused about why they have two fans to begin with. I know most cars don't. Besides her A/C not working, there's transmission issues which I've heard is common with them.

Scotty, I'm sorry, I didn't listen, two years ago I bought a brand new 2017 Ford Fiesta SFE with the 1. 0L 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine and 5-speed standard transmission. 2017 was the last year Ford sold the Fiesta with that Fox engine in America; was it because they had problems, or because nobody bought them? What can I do to keep mine from becoming an endless money pit, and will I still be able to get parts for it in the future?
