Scotty, I have 30, 700 miles on my 2018 Honda Odyssey Touring, equipped with the 10 speed auto. This transmission has some odd shift/power delivery issues, especially under 40 mph. From 0 to 29 mph, if you drive gently on the throttle, youll notice lumpy power delivery and tiny RPM spasms (mainly in neighborhoods and stop & go traffic. Upshifts are quick, but again gentle cruising allows shifts 1 though 7 to make themselves known with a slight kick feel. It is very subtle, but I have driven a lot of cars, and I feel everything My dealer (Spring Branch Honda, Houston) allowed me to drive other new vans for comparison - they all do it The service tech rode with me for 15 minutes, using his scan tool, and gathered no fault data. I am hoping a future PCM update-program will smooth all of this out, though its allegedly not really a problem. If I just drive on cracked, bumpy streets, I cannot feel it. Put the car on a super smooth road, I feel it all.

Scotty doesnt know schitt about oil. This happens a lot with OLD mechanics. They fall into a mindset and no amount of logic and/or proof will change their minds. Scotty talks about cars as if they can think, oh this synthetic is different oil and I dont like it so Im going to break my engine or at least burn a lot of this synthetic stuff. Ill get some new parts and teach my owner a lesson Ridiculous. Synthetic is better than conventional. always. Just make sure you have a clean good (NOT FRAM) oil filter, the correct weight oil and its not a lawn mower or very, very old car that requires ND (non-detergent) oil.

I think any transmission with more than 6sp. is a bit excessive. The more gears you have. the more complexity you have. the more small moving parts and more shifting which leads to a greater degree of wear and tear. I doubt a 10 spd. auto lasts very long. Not to mention, it would be unbearable to drive with all of the gear hunting and constant shifting. Most vehicles have gone to 8 spd. now and I believe that is the absolute limit. anything greater than an 8 spd. and you might as well just get a CVT. I believe all vehicles will eventually go to CVT only (hopefully Im too old to drive by then.

Im an engineer. I work in the auto industry. I definitely agree that being a mechanic is a GOOD job. Its not an easy job. which means the pay and demand for labor will always be there. and those jobs cant be exported to India or China. Fewer and fewer people are repairing their own cars. They dont have the time or the know-how or simply dont want to be bothered (they have better things to do. Theyre willing to pay. Theyll put it on their credit card if they have to. The only downside is having to deal with the public. You know how people can be.

I have a 2000 Accord V6. I bought it in 2010. I dont drive very much, but it is all city driving. I have NO issues. However, I did some research before I bought the car. Turns out the 2000 model year had the best coverage by Honda(replacement/rebuilding/extended warranty) from the class-action lawsuit over their transmissions. So I took a chance(needed a car immediately) and it has paid off. The only bad thing about it is that it is a 4speed and would be considered a terrible transmission even if none of them ever failed.

I have a 2005 chevy cavalier 2. 2 ecotech engine 186, 000 miles. I know everyone says they are trash but I got it for 1, 000 bucks, it rides good and gets great gas mileage. I refuse to drive my Tahoe 5. 3L to and from work everyday. Anyway, every morning when I start it, as it idles, it makes a clicking noise on rhythm then goes away after a few minutes. She rides good a little heavy vibration at idle though. I suspect the timing chain or tensioner. I could ignore but Im trying to get 300, 000 miles. Any suggestions?

Did enjoy the video but just wanted to share a little of my personal experience. The transmission mounts can be a bigger safety issue or wear on the transmission than it sounded here. I had a friends Acura MDX if you ever cause it to kick down into passing gear or over half throttle the entire SUV would swerve heavily side to side when shifting m mounts bad. Something more powerful like a northstar with 2 intact side mounts the front allowed the trans mount to be destroyed as well.
