Toyota Just Changed the Game with This New Transmission Dave: I hope you're right about Toyota & Honda CVTs, Scotty. Cause after having my 2014 Nissan Versa Note, which had a Jatco CVT, i vowed never to buy another CVT from anybody ever again. I now own a 97 Camry with a 4 speed auto. So much more reliable. If that thing well and truely craps the bed, I'll be buying its modern brother. Or at least one from the last decade.

scotty whose corolla is that that keeps showing up there lol. that launch gear is genius. leave it to toyota to cover all their bases plus they use double the fuel injectors to stop the gummed up intake valves. i cant believe people buy anything than toyotas. its a waste buying anything else. if you like to lease cars you are doing a public service because then more people can have a durable car down the line of ownership and less cars need to be made. you cant do that with most car brands. it makes me sick seeing people driving german cars that have short lifespans or chryslers and GMs. these are selfish and immoral companies too and they exist because selfish and immoral people buy them - it takes two to tango. and that applies to everything in life. granted some tango with immorality out of ignorance. but then theyre lazy they should be learning things all the time to make informed decisions in all things.

My Uncle's 05 Passat TDi also gets much better mileage in real life than what the sticker says. I love it when you get those surprises. It is not a slow car either, it has a DSG and will take off like a bat out of hell very easily. It also does not belch out black smoke or sound terrible and I think that was made BEFORE they started putting DPFs on them. The thing that gives Diesels a bad name are big heavy trucks that belch out black smoke and seem to move slowly. I am thinking of dump trucks being those vehicles that gave Diesel engines a bad reputation. I know Volkswagen cheated but I suspect they all are and Volkswagen was the first to get caught. It was probably a Volkswagen hater who just wanted to find something wrong with them and I hope that person mysteriously disappeared never to be seen again!

I have been kinda leary of CVTs also. It is not like they are known to be the most reliable after all. I don't hate them yet, my Mother's Nissan has one and it is smooth with no gears to shift. On the other hand an automatic transmission in good condition is also smooth too. My Passat when the fluid in its 09G is not low is a fun car to drive despite being so big.

Hey Scotty, my father has a 2003 Dodge Durango SLT our engine is shaking it sounds like it one for the cylinders it not the engine mounts and all the plugs have been changed white smoke is coming out of the exhaust I think it s a cylinder head crack should we fix it or should we just junk it for a Corolla? It s got 163k miles.

Hey Scotty! I am debating on getting a honda crv 1st gen manual or a toyota highlander 3. 0 v6 automatic. What would you reccomend. Id like to keep the vehicle as long as possible. I kind of think a manual crv would be the cheaper and longer lasting option. But what is your opinion?

The bigger new is kia changing to a chain type belt is n the cvt not metal bands like the originals. I live the cvt gears make no sense to me and I always hated the gear changes although now with many more ratios they are much better than the 3 and four speeds we used to have.

This tranny is the same as the Prius Power Split Device. No belt and expandable pulleys. Last forever if you get rid of the non-synthetic WS ATF and install REDLINE D6. The regular Corolla has a regular CVT with a torque converter 1st gear.

Worked for a Toyota dealer for 10 years, I've seen more 300k miles toyotas than any other manufacturer by far. Buy a Corolla, do recommended maintenance, treat it right and you will have the least expensive per mile vehicle you'll ever have.

I have a 2006 Rav4 with 220, 000 on it. When I'm coming to a stop light braking it will shale and the dashboard lights flicker. Not during the whole braking time, just a second before I come to a complete stop. Any ideas?
