Here\'s Why the Hummer is Garbage Kellington Link: There must, by default, loads of excellently trained (albeit Hummer & Heavy Equipment) mechanics. My sincere Thanks and praise to all of those U. S. Troops who have protected us (throughout the World) over the years. Even as a Canadian Thanks you for everything. Scotty you are right though. Hummer H1s are great promotional vehicles (& off-road) but think otherwise if you are seeking any sort of reliability - unless youve got access to a U. S. military budget Thanks for the video.

interesting, yet false at least from my end. I got two H2s (2004 and 2009) and a 2008 H3 Alpha. I have dealt only with recalls and replaced the weak links in the suspension. the 04 had an ABS module problem. replaced it and I upgraded the transmission. the 09 H2 and 08 H3 Alpha don't have a single problem to this day and I have owned them all when they were new. I trust some of your opinions on the H1s as I have seen what people who own them have been through. however, I am getting a new Wrangler soon as I don't have anymore off-road SUV options. ps never selling the Hummers so please stop with this false narrative no car is perfect and I am a mechanic. also, the Tacoma rust buckets barely survive the salt in the north so enjoy it while you can. the reason why people buy American pickups here in canada.

Hi Scotty, Thought provoking video as always. Id like to make a couple of points if I may. 1. The Humvee was never really intended as a combat vehicle and wasnt designed to withstand mines and IEDs etc. It was just a big Jeep at heart, and it did OK at that. 2. Fuel consumption is a big deal for the military, not so much for budgetary reasons but for logistical ones. Getting fuel to the tactical edge needs convoys, which are very tempting targets for the enemy. So vehicles that drink less save lives. Cheers, Peter.

As a Marine that works around these Humvees a lot, they really are garbage. Theyre very underpowered. That 6. 5 liter V8 makes 170 horsepower in a 8000lbs unarmored, 10, 000 lbs armored is a horrific power to weight ratio. They also always run into problems with leaks, whether if its the engine oil, power steering, or coolant. I guarantee you theres at least one leak somewhere. They need to be highly maintained. Overall, theyre unreliable.

it was not gm fault that it was not armoured enough. It was built to replace the Jeep. It was not designed for urban warfare. So don't blame GM for the design cause they built it to the DoD specifications. Trying to sell to civilians was a mistake do to their quality issues tho. When I was we only had issue with 1 Humvee where it blew a headgasket. It was weird do to the fact that the vehicle had less that 20, 000 miles if I remember.

Scotty I was a solider in the early seventies and we drove jeeps. They had no armor, heat, air, doors, seat belts, glove box, radio, and no automatic transmission. But they were strong. They were narrow, high off the ground and simple to operate. Four wheel drive, four speed and four cylinders. If needed a machine gun, canvas top, and a field radio could be mounted. It could even pull a trailer. I was 18 when I learned to drive one.

Well I wouldn't say it failed in the military. I mean the HMMWV prove to be a versatile platform from transport, ambulance, AA platform, Anti tank and recon. But as many other platforms, they just get outdated, the humvee was never meant to be an heavily armored vehicle. I guess COIN requieres different approach. On the other hand the commercial or civilian version is completely useless, totally agree.

The British army beat the US army to a similar turd in the 1950s and believe or not it was called the Humber a large pickup truck, too big to do a Land Rovers job and too small to do the job of a Bedford truck, most were sold off and others were converted to armed personal carriers (Paddy pushers) used in northern Ireland for a short time, some my disagree but you know what they can do,

I bought a 06 Lexus lx470 used and my friends got around same year H2 used. Both spent about 24k on them. Looks wise his has more demanding presence on the road and mine has a way better interior. Same fuel mileage (LX has the smaller 4. 7 and his has 6. 2 I think) and both of them have had no mechanical issues so far. But although I do like driving the H2 I would never trade my LX for it.

Im no Scotty Kilmer but Im a 91 bravo wheeled vehicle mechanic in the army and I will say not Hummers but Humvees are bullet proof, they are a very old vehicle and they are simple as can be. for blasts etc thats why we have up armored. JLTVs are new and great but they obviously come with a lot more tech. another headache and something else to dig in a TM for.
