The Best Cheap Used Truck to Buy, Period. A G: I've got a 2000 B4000 4-door extra-cab 4WD, 5-speed, 186k miles, almost no rust, perfect interior. It is a great truck. After some mid-life maintenance, it runs like new. I would much rather put money into my old truck than buy one of those new 2-liter turbo Rangers. I plan to run the old girl forever. I even dolled it up with a new radio - touch screen, bluetooth, mp3, phone, backup cam - all the electronic gizmos the new ones have. That new Ranger isn't a truck, its a tin toy. A Ford mechanic told me it takes 2 hours just to change the oil As you often say - money pit. The 4-liter engine has a much more truck-like torque curve than the 3-liter, which is basically a Taurus engine. Gas mileage isn't great, but that's not really important. For a 2wd utility truck, the 3-liter is a fine engine. Love your videos. You are one of the few car guys online who's opinions I actually trust. Keep on not pulling your punches

Sorry Scotty I have to disagree with you on this one. I own a 2002 Ford Ranger XLT 2. 3L, 5 speed manual. Regular cab, 2WD. I bought her new in September 2002. MSRP 16, 500 I paid 11, 600 before tax. Right now she has 57, 800 miles on her. I treat her like a baby. Now the bad news. Frozen driver side brake caliper, taking out the caliper, brake disc, brakes. Replaced. 19, 000 miles. Frozen passenger side window. 21, 000 miles. Fuel pump burned out. 28, 000 miles. Thermostat stuck open. 36, 000 miles. Drive shaft balancer bushing rotted out. 40, 000 miles. Front Stabilizer bar links broken BOTH. 42, 000 miles. Muffler rotted out, 45, 000 miles. Right rear brake line blew, 55, 000 miles. replaced right and left. Main rear brake line blew. 57, 000 miles. Replaced along with rear flexible brake hose. Fuel pump burned out, 2nd TIME, 57, 700 miles. Intermittent engine drivability problems, stalling. Comes and goes without warning no lights. Cracked spark plug coil, being replaced with new, with Iridium plugs and wires now. Engine prob? When she's running I love driving her. BUT she breeds Gremlins. Best thing? 28 mpg overall, city AND highway combined. Worse? See above. What's coming Next? The only other thing a person owning these has to be aware of is, IT'S A TRUCK go down ANY slightly bumpy road and she will INSTANTLY remind you she's a Truck. Ride comfort is NOT on the menu.

Besides the tank of a body, the Taurus was such a fantastic car because of that Vulcan V6. They weren't powerhouses, but they got the job done, sounded GREAT and ran FOREVER you just could not kill them. Simple to work on tooBesides a few good engines (2. 3L, 3. 0L Vulcan, 5. 0L pushrod) it seems the 90s was the peak for a lot of manufacturers, excluding GM and Chrysler. And isn't it ironic, we said the same thing about American vehicles when I was in high school in the 80s about 50s-60s cars. I wonder will history repeat itself again in 30 years. That's a very disturbing thought

Problem with them Ranger/B3000 is Piss Poor Gas Mileage. A few Buddies of mine had/has them and my Full Size Crew Cab with a V8 gets Better Gas Mileage. Even the Sanoma/S10 Get Way Better Gas Mileage. My 97 Sanoma was getting 30mpg Hwy and 24 City while the Same Year Rangers were getting 20Hwy and 15 City ( what my buddies were getting with Normal Driving, Your Mileage may have differed ). Hell, Even my Buddy who had a 6cyl Dakota Extended Cab was Getting Better Mileage of around 24Hwy and 18 City.

Put a 2001 B3000 on the road this past May. Bought it from a guy in work a year ago for 1800 bucks. Just passed a hundred thousand miles. Did complete brake job, shocks, starter master cylinder, new tires, it's also a four-wheel drive. It's great to get this confirmation of a good pickup from Scotty I'm very happy to have it, no payments. It sat for 5 years up here in Massachusetts. Believe It or Not. body and frame are in excellent condition.

Which is better at stopping creaking suspension, AT-205 or Silicone spray? There are a couple of old vids that call out AT-205, but it seems like I saw a recent one where you explained that regular WD40 could be used to chase water from the area and then silicone could be used to stop the squeaking (can't find that video now. If silicone, what product? Also, do you accept new patients in Houston?

Few years ago I found a grandpa owned 95 manual 2 wheel drive Tacoma with 42, 000 miles. Picked it up for 4000. Got sideswiped and it was totaled. Damage was cosmetic. They paid me 6800 because I found a comparable pickup at a dealership. Bought it back from insurance company for 1700. Ended up selling it years later for 3000 and bought a 07 tundra. Wish I still had the Tacoma.

Hyundai started out as Knock down manufacturer for Ford vehicles in South Korea. When Hyundai decided to develop their own model of cars, they first asked Ford for help. and Ford just laughed them off. So, Hyundai went to Toyota for help, and Toyota said flat out NO. Hyundai then went to Mitsubishi for help, and Mitsubishi said ok, and help Hyundai creating their first model.

I have a 95 f150 5. 0 engine 4r70w trans. It's all original except for the exhaust, distributor an alternator. It has 171, 480 miles it's my daily driver. It runs drives just fine an has only left me stranded 2 times. 1 when alternator died an 1 other time 2 years later when the gear on the distributor snapped off. Other than that no other major issues.
