What automakers should do is instead of using timing belts or chains use gears like Caterpillar and Detroit Diesel do. But of course they won't do that because it would make the engines last a really long time and they don't want that. They don't want their vehicles to last a long time because they want you to have to buy a new one every eight years or so whether you want to or not.

Enjoyed this video; I bought a 2015 Xterra Pro-4X new; one of the last ones I think. Anyway very happy with it take it out to the Mojave Desert and Death Valley off-roading with friends who have Jeeps and ForRunners. The Xterra is great for off-road and pulls out tent trailer easily. Does use the gasoline though; but did not buy it for that. Plan to own it for a long time.

I had a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder LE. It had the Nissan 3. 3 liter engine that was underpowered. The 4. 0 was much better. I sold this to my father in -law as the body started to rush out. My father in-law pounded the heck out out of it and he sold it to a guy in South Carolina and it had over 200, 000. For me the 1998 Nissan Pathfinder was a very good SUV.

Very dependable, Scotty said. He's not kidding. I bought one used with only 11, 000 miles on it. It now has 101, 000 miles and it has NEVER needed a single repair beyond replacement of oil, tires, filters. It still has the original factory spark plugs and brakes shoes and linings. Most trouble free vehicle I've ever owned in my 56 years of adult life.

Scotty, I have an 06 Frontier with exactly the same engine, but mine is 4x4. It has mostly all original equipment and has taken winters here in Chicago. I have owned it since new and love it. This is the last year 2020, they are going to make the 4. 0 V6 with the 5speed Automatic. Do you think they are still as good as they were in 06?

Hi, Scotty. 'Love your videos and I've learned a lot. I am currently looking at a 2012 Cadillac SRX, 120, 000 miles, (for 8, 000. As I researched the problems the SRX has (2010 - 2015, a headlight problem keeps coming up. What are your thoughts about the SRX in general and the headlight problem? Thanks.

Few months ago me and my dad got a 2006 pathfinder not running for 600, it just needed a camshaft replacement and transmission fluid change.
It looked like new inside and out, we got it some new headlight and it was just beautiful
After 1 hour of posting it to sell, some guy bought it for 3300

With over 200k miles and going for 3 K I would have bet money it had mechanical issues/ transmission issues etc. Guess I'd lost out on this one cause I would never have bought this with that many miles on it. Maybe it was a lot lower miles when she bought it 2 years ago.

I have a 2008 Xterra with 180K and I've never had any issues. Just got back from a road trip into the Rockies and drove fantastic. Performing general maintenance and oil changes contributes greatly to longevity. One of the most reliable vehicles I've owned.
