Actually, Wrong again Scotty. Its not that European manufacturers want to sell Americans expensive models because Americans have lots of money. Typical insular American perspective. I think youll find the average German is a lot wealthier than the average American If youd buy them, theyll sell them. Its the fact that along with the expensive models comes the bigger engines and Americans dont like small engines. In the UK, most cars are 1. 3L. a 2. 0 is considered a big exec engine. Im considered extravagant with my 3. 0. Also, europeans have been forced into diesels over the last 20 years and Americans have stuck to gas guzzling petrols. You talk about mid 20s mpg being economical. How we laugh. In Europe of youre not averaging 45mpg theres a problem. Sure, we still have some V8s but theyre an extravagant toy, not a daily. Take the Merc E Class. In the UK, most people bought the E220CDI. Same car, same extras, same level of quality, 7. 0s 0-60 but key - 60mpg. The top model here was the E320 and whilst you could get E500s, they were special order and are rare as hens teeth. How many Americans would have bought an E200? Plenty sold here.

I was selling cars at a Chevrolet dealer, I was about 21 and did not know how to drive a standard. So, I went through the used cars until I found one with an owners manual that explained how to drive a standard (Al Gore had not invented the internet yet. At that point I became enamoured with. the Renault LeCar. Better yet, it was metallic slime green with black racing decals I drove that thing around like I stole it, on two wheels around corners. Forget the Corvettes and slush boxes. Then in the winter I had my fling with a Subaru DL AWD manual. I use to not plow my driveway and FLING it out of the driveway, over the snow bank, into the street. I was amazed how they could make an AWD car that was better in the snow then many trucks/SUVs (rotf - s10 blazers)Later I use to work at a AMC-Jeep-Renault dealership (ended up being a service manager ) and I can say probably the best Renault ever sold in the USA was probably the LeCar, imho.

German cars humiliated and practically destroyed USAs luxury car segment in the 80s. Not only that, they were the paragon for Japanese manufacturers who wanted to build luxury cars, in particular Lexus (who made its debut in 1989. That said, European cars break down is a general statement from people who apparently have never owned anything by Chrysler, Nissan, or Chevrolet (specially their entry-level cars. Indeed, some do (English and French cars have always been mediocre) but it depends on the generation and brand. A good European car leaves Detroits best behind. Fact, BMW and Audi (although expensive) are in Consumer Reports top 10 list of reliable cars for 2018, no American cars is and many Asians (MitsubiSHIT, Nissan, Acura) arent either.

Hi mr. scotty i have a query regarding a vw tdi manual transmission. when it reaches +2000rpm and i press the clutch to shift the gear it makes a growling noise (this kind of sound can be heard in every car if u press the clutch and accelerate at the same time while in motion. Can u suggest something regarding this? The service station guy told that the accelerator paddle needs to be changed as it is responding slow on taking the foot off the paddle but it works fine while accelerating? I personally feel that it is related to the throttle body. Also the car has completed +100, 000kmsLove from India.

You are great dear Scotty. Because none of European cars owned by European nor it is made in Europe. Its all owned by some US dirty politicians n indians, Asians indianTata n Africans n east Europeans, Arabs. and all are with washed money from dirty politiciansAll engines n its powertrains n other systems imported from cheep sources like Chaina Taiwan n India, even of third quality n with silly design even without an imaginations of a corract engineering design. simply non of technician hands could reach to any replacement parts unless lefting/removing half or all of the engine outside

I read or saw a report that said that many Euro vehicles (VW in particular) develop a lot of rattles and issues due to the crappy American roads. Compare the pothole-fest highways here to the Autobahn and youll see a HUGE difference in driving quality. Unfortunately VW and other companies dont make the suspension heavier duty to compensate for the crappy roads here (saves weight, complies with EPA MPG standards, etc) and so the cars get beat to pieces. Something to think about.

VW etc no doubt realized that normal sized European cars wouldnt sell in America, as saving fuel is not a priority there. If you end up paying nearly 10 a gallon like most other countries, which will probably happen soon, the small 1. 2 petrol engines will suddenly be the only thing many Americans can afford. All those massive suvs and pickups with 7l. Bus engines in them will be towed away to be scrapped and America will become part of the real world.

Hey Scotty. I live in the UK. Rumour has it the quality of fuel from petrol stations owned by a supermarket is of poor quality, especially diesel. Whats your opinion on that? Also I notice you have 3 grades of petrol there in the USA. We only have 95 octane as the lowest grade which is standard, there is an option to pay a premium and get 98 grade or even 99 octane but I see the octane is much lower in the USA?

YES SCOTTY You are correct The Europeans have been screwing us with their cars for years There is a HUGE difference between what they build for themselves and what we drive here. BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW, Jaguar, Range Rover - for USA - all are made to sit in the Service and make additional money with repairs Yes - we are considered idiots with money This is why we need to BUY AMERICAN brands
