This Means Your Struts are Going to Fail radfoo72: Gathered Key Talking Points 00: 45-1: 03 Change both front struts at the same time and use quality. 2: 48-3: 22 If possible buy just a Strut Replacement, buying the whole assembly springs and all will cost you 3x as much. I enjoy watching these before taking my car into a mechanic for diagnosis or work. I can usually generally tell whats going on with my car and these tutorials assure me Im not getting ripped of with inflated estimates. Sometimes you can save money by acquiring the parts yourself and just paying for labor.

It is nice to see how to fix/replace struts. Now I am not going to Do It Myself anymore but it is nice to see so I can check the work I pay the mechanic to do. I own Toyotas myself and I always use the dealership for repairs where I purchased my vehicles from. They have done excellent work and never screwed me over. In fact they have been more then fair. We had our Struts replaced on our 2007 Camry XLE last year and it was not all that expensive plus the car rides almost like new again.

I found it strange for the famous Scotty Kilmer to overlook an important detail such as placing a new rubber boot to prevent dust and debris from damaging the strut seals prematurely with his fifty years of experience. I really like his videos, but he really let this one slip by. I guess in the end, my electronic injection teacher was right: Everyone makes mistakes now and then regardless of the experience. You can only reduce the frequency with which it happens as time goes by.

Thank you Scotty. I took my van to Darling Ford here in Bangor, Maine for a ignition collar replacement. when it was done (in 15 minutes) and I was charged for 2 hours of work. my steering wheel was crooked. then the young mechanic (Joe) told me I would get charged for my now tilted (left to right)-left side lower- steering wheel. maybe this guy did something to my struts? The steering wheel was normal before I went into that crooked dealership.

Im pretty sure 95% of scottys fans dont know how to put gas in their cars. Heres some advice so you dont kill yourself. DANGERA compressed coilspringis verydangerous, Avoid using power tools or air tools to load up and tighten the coil spring compressor. Its better to do it slowly with a hand wrench or ratchet. This will allow you to more carefully and evenly distribute force at each side while watching out for slipping or other potential.

i only see one mistake, it needed a new strut boot, it keeps the dust, moisture, weather, mud, and if the seal around your strut becomes damaged from a bad strut boot it will leak and damage the strut and you back where your started within a year, you should no better Scotty, Quality is no good if you do it wrong, they say do it right the first time, you took a shortcut

i like the two arm puller you have. i got a two and three arm and they are pathetic by comparison. there wasnt any better where i bought them so i didnt think there were any better anywhere. im going shopping. ps. cant you replace the seals on the strut? been changing seals on my motorbikes since i was a kid. are the car struts that much more difficult to bother trying?

Scotty you are a brave man to be doing it that way nobody does that anymore my dad is 70 years old I guess with age comes cheapness because I would have just bought the whole thing brand new instead of messing around with those things that compress the springs that is very dangerous like I said you are a brave man Scotty

Where would you recommend purchasing a manual transmission for a 2009 scion xD? Or rebuild? Husband bought it and didnt know the tranny was failing. It needs a new clutch as well. The mechanic we paid to look at it says hes to busy and found one on carmonkeys? That was 4 months ago. We live in San Antonio, Tx.

I replaced all my suspension parts on my GTI a little over a year ago. Total novice that had never done anything of the sort. Id just like to advise that Scotty made this look way easier to do in your driveway than it is. I bet it took me 12 hours. And 7 of that was spent on the first front strut.
