What Its Like to Own an Old Ferrari bbthing68: A friend of mine (and a highly successful businessman) once owned a Ferrari 308. When someone from his home town phoned looking to buy it, his wife answered. When the asking price was over 105, 000 when he had only paid about 95, 000 for it, his wife accepted the deal because it was more than he paid for it. Well, he was rather upset with that, but a deal was a deal. He phoned the purchaser and told him to never again do business over his things with his wife. When he heard people from his home town tell him that they saw him racing around in the Ferrari, he immediately cashed the cashiers check. It turns out that the purchasers son was speeding in it, and soon had ruined the engine. The purchaser asked for his money back, but it was too late: the check was already cashed. Moral of the story: Dont buy a hot and expensive car and let your son ruin it, and then try to blame the car and its previous owner.

I heard many of these in the 80s roaming San Jose, California. 237 hp for the N American market though could be gotten with a four banger for lower insurance rates in Italy. This car sounds stock not anywhere near the claimed 509 hp. I notice no certified dyno readout was supplied to backup this claim. On top of that if it indeed had 509 hp there would need to be massive modifications to the transmission and chassis which was of course was never mentioned during the video. Even if such modifications were or will be done it would take away from the originality of the car as would be using non-ferrari parts. Furthermore with the timing belt already a known headache with this car I would suspect it would need to be changed every week on this so called 509 hp car.

One of my favorite cars of all time. My buddy got a used one from his rich dad for his 16th birthday and we used to cruise around town in it and look at all the people staring at us and pointing. His dad started doing too much coke however and ended up owing the feds over a million in back taxes so his dad took the car and gave him a used audi 5000 instead. Those things ride like a super fast go cart. Your feet are out in front of you. You can just barely bend your knees. The sound is oh so sweet, I never got tired of listening to that motor especially when he dialed up those rpms.

308 GTBAt that time I was in Vegas at the old Marina Hotel. There I saw this exact car. All I had to do is put a quarter in the slot machine and if the tumblers stopped at five cars across the ride was mine. Well. 1200 pulls later (300) later I had a sore shoulder but no car. So then I thought I earned the right to just sit in the drivers seat and smell that sweet glove leather interior. Not 15 seconds later a big guy with a badge informs me that I need to exit the vehicle. I can dream, cant I?

A customer - friend of mine wants to buy a 2009 BMW 5 series for 3000, Im trying to talk him out of it, he already owns a 2005 350z convertible, the Beemer comes complete with an undiagnosed oil leak at no extra charge, he wont listen to me, it supposedly was owned by his aunt who must be up there in age since hes 63, on the one hand it does mean I will make money on repairing it but on the other hand I dont want him to as Scotty puts it buy an endless money pit.

Come on, owning an exotic car isnt just admiring the style and revving the engine. Its expensive insurance, bad gas mileage, jealous losers scratching your paint in the parking lot, unreliable or horridly overpriced aftermarket parts that you have no choice to buy as originals dont exist, The constant reminder that if your car was totaled you would never find another one, etc.

I can hear Scotty now. You know Ferraris especially the newer ones are endless money pits. but hey if you have the money itll make a good weekend toy just dont drive it everyday and it should last a long time. (Insert famous scotty chuckle with pic of laughing walrus here) ps: I tease outta love Scotty. Its never mean spirited.

I considered buying one of those about 20 years ago. Then I learned that if I decided to race it, the car would require a pretty extensive tune up afterwards. including valve adjustment, if my memory serves me correctly. The cost was quoted as 3, 000. That cured me of my desire for that car.

I was actually looking at getting a 308, almost twenty years ago. What stopped me was that every 15, 000 miles they need a 5, 000 tune up. That are actually reasonably priced because they produced so many. At the time that I was looking, they really from 18, 000 to about 43, 000.

20 years ago I had a track day at the Nrburgring. We could drive a Zakspeed Formula 3 Renault. We also could drive with a guy in a new M3 and in this Ferrari. The Ferrari was a real p. o. s. compared to the M3. It rattled and had lousy handling.
