Heres Why Chevy Silverados are Crap Taylor Livingston: I'm a mech and find Chevys very hit and miss. The 4L60E transmissions are very weak and most only last 120-150k before letting go. The 5. 3s are a decent engine, but the castech cylinder heads have been known to crack and cause coolant loss and other issues along with shitty lifters and oil pumps failing prematurely and murdering the motor. Keep these things clean with a good oil and keep them cool with a good coolant and a good cooling system and the motors are good for quite some time. But they definitely cant take neglect. The oil passages are pretty small and tight too. Get sludged pretty easy. The Tundras are definitely the best truck In terms of reliabilty and motor strength with their beefy forged cams. The Silverado is definitely better than the Ram though. From my experience.

Full Synthetic - I switched. . 98, 000 miles on the clock when I purchased my Tacoma. It was idling at 2250 RPM. I had previously driven my new Mitsubishi Montero for 250, 000 mikes on full syn and before that a car that I had switched to full synthetic. After switching my yoda to full syn, the idle dropped to 1700 RPM and it is making less noise as well, I now have 223, 000 miles on the odo. I always buy the Toyota filter(s) from the dealer and I change it myself. I did get an offer from a local garage to change it for me if I brought in the oil and filter. That is not common but some will. In my case, he was trying to drum up business since taking over the shop from his boss. The best way to own a vehicle is to do most of your own service or find a mechanic like Scotty and let them do all your work. Don't shop around the car for the best deals and don't go to any of those franchises. When your mechanic gets all your service he (or she) will get to know your car (making them an _informed_ mechanic. They will also know that they will make money from you over time - no need to get it all at once. A mechanic getting your regular business will also likely agree to change the oil with full syn and a factory filter if you request that - easy peasy.

I would like to ask the question what is synthetic oil? . Did they make it out of stardust, dirt, pea gravel. If they make synthetic oil out of crude oil that came out of the ground then its a petroleum base oil. Look up the definition of synthetic in the dictionary and then ask a chemical engineer how they make it. Second I have no problem driving a rear wheel car in the snow. When people have problems in the snow they dont know how to drive in it. Why is it that on the 6pm news and also when Im out in the snow I see all these 4wheel drive trucks, SUVs in the ditch? I thought that was supposed to help and I will argue about front wheel drive in snow and ice because I have driven them. The motor torques up and shifting a portion of the vehicle weight to the back wheels and the front end gets lighter as you are trying to steer and pull the car at the same time if you get out control in a severe slide its difficult to over correct. Give me a rear wheel drive with a posi track rear end a Michelin all session tires any day of the week and I will out drive you in snow and ice. Learn how to drive and stop the big lie about synthetic oil, it all comes out of the ground unless they make it from beans, or get it from whales.

American diesel is ultra low sulfur which has no lubricity. When you use it in older vehicles or vehicles overseas it wears out the fuel system by literally wearing away the metal parts. The cheap solution is to pour in some new motor oil into the fuel tank every week and you won't have problems. Just pour in a gallon. A diesel engine will gladly run on 100% pure motor oil so it won't harm the engine. Newer engines designed for low sulfur diesel in the American market use hard metal coatings and special rubber seals. Also adding oil to the fuel on new engines with diesel-exhaust-filter junk will make the filter go bad and throw a code. Old diesel engines are preferable to new engines which is why people always use old classic diesel engines when they do engine swaps into pickup trucks.

well. sort of. newer duramax's use the new updated? cp4 injection pump replacing the old cp3 injection pump. newer fords uses a version of the cp4 also. there have been problems and different people have different theories as to why. some say it is lack of lubrication in usa diesel, some say it is fuel starvation as there is no lift pump and others say it is water contaminated fuel causing the failures. so far all attempts at law suits have failed but more are underway. there are conversion kits to go back to the cp3 pumps and modification kits to try to divert metal from failing pumps away from the rest of the fuel system. i am looking at conversion to the old style pump, but hoping for a recall and factory conversion but. afraid to wait too long, 3k today or maybe 10k if i wait too long.

i just remember from my high school days and in my early twenties, it seemed that every Chevy and GmC owner bragged about how he was on his fourth motor. it was almost like a badge of honor to have went through so many. i was confused by this, because they would almost puff up their chest while they said it. They build pretty solid drive trains, well at least in the seventies and eighties, it was mostly spicer, they made them for dodge as well, they just couldn't seem to b uild a starter or alternator to save their life. the engine thing though always bewildered me.

You know full well that Germans make fantastic gear. It's weird that Bosch would spec out a part they knew would malfunction. It's not uncommon for manufacturers to buy parts from other companies. I have 2 cars that I paid less than 2, 000 for (insert smug laugh. EVERYTHING ON THEM WORKS 1, 500--2000 Maxima & 1, 800--1998 Dakota. both with more than 160, 000. My commute is 170 miles daily for the last 5 years. People think those cars are 5 years old. Number of times I've called AAA for a tow. 0. Then again, I know how to maintain cars. (smug laugh)

It's not the fuel pump, it's the cp4 injection pump. Ford, Chevy, and Ram do not build their own injection pumps so it's not a Chevy thing. The Powerstroke uses a similar or possibly the same exact pump. Ford actually has a fuel system replacement kit ) for when the pump eats itself. The new 2019 Cummins supposedly has an updated version of this pump on it. I guess time will tell if they have problems too. Bosch should have just updated the cp3 pump with a larger displacement for the American market.

Bosch makes the fuel pump not GM. Bosch makes Cummins pump, fuel pumps for all makes, 02 sensors, MAF, MAP, and much more. Toyota makes an okay car but nothing like you make it to be. GMs make good cars that last. Owned plenty of them to know. Oh, parts are cheaper too. 3. 8, 3. 4, 3, 5, 4. 3, 4. 8, 5. 3, 6. 0 all excellent reliable engines to name a few. They were put in reliable cars too. I watch your videos for a laugh and to think about the people dumb enough to actually pay you.
