The Bluebell Railway - 2019 Branch-line Weekend

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
This is the weekend the Bluebell Railway shows off its world class collection of vintage and veteran carriages, some of which passed into preservation from the national network, often surviving as maintenance vehicles or grounded bodies used as mess rooms or stores, others survived because they were purchased by private individuals to become seaside holiday homes or garden sheds. The skilled dedication of the carriage repair and maintenance department has turned these often dilapidated, rotten wrecks into -as new- condition. Work to restore these and more carriages can be watched from the viewing platform at the Horsted Keynes carriage works. No rake of beautifully restored coaches would be complete unless headed by one of the superb Bluebell Railway engines. The engines used on the day were the smaller ones, those more likely to have been found on a branch line train in the days of our grandfathers. Those selected would all have been found going about their daily routines in the South of England. Please join me as we sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of steam in the beautiful Sussex countryside on a glorious sunny day. Locomotive in use or on display: South Eastern & Chatham Railway (SE&CR) 0-4-4T No. 263. South Eastern & Chatham Railway (SE&CR) O Class 0-6-0 No. 65. Southern Region (SR) Q-Class No. 30541. Tim, when I saw that you had filmed a visit to the Bluebell Railway on a branchline weekend, in March 2019, I just had to watch. If only to compare the line side views and expansion of the line, rolling stock and number of stations, since my last visit in the 1980s. Your filming is as always, immaculate and unhurried. The editing reflective and informative. What joy you brought me in under 40 minutes. Thank you.

What lovely things those vintage carriages and locos in the pre-grouping liveries are aren't they. Pity about the tit in a car as 24 and 263 were departing around 20: 00. I suppose he thought he'd have some fun spoiling everyone's shot. I recommend bringing a shotgun next time.

There you are Tim, told you Sunday the better day, even the sun came out! - Brought a tear to my eye to ride in the Metro Chesham carriage set, memories of me and my mother going shopping when I was a boy! --

Excellent video of the gala last weekend Sunday Tim -- I was there on that and it shame we couldn't have met. It was great & interesting that the two 0-4-4s double headed together during midday.

(10: 41) These were my first impressions of a train compartment when I first took an English train on the boat train from Folkstone to Victoria Station, London. - Heinz
