I don't eat out as often as I'd like because I hate tipping. I want to relax when I go out, not try and guess the right amount to tip so the waiter doesn't hate me.
I travel a lot, so it's often difficult for me to know what an appropriate amount is. The business owner and employee are in a much better position to know what a fair wage is, don't bring an ignorant customer into negotiations that affect people's livelihoods.

Wow, in the UK the minimum wage for 25+ is around 10 per hour, which is why we don't really tip unless we've had outstanding service. So if you an American in the UK looking to tip because you feel that it is rude if you don't tip, do not bother, I have seen many Americans asking where they can tip, and whilst we still may have jars, or bowls for tips, we don't really need tips, and if you do tip it is very highly appreciated.

Shouldnt this clip be titled, 'How tipping hurts workers? I understand the logic and there are many fair points made during the clip, although workers who are not women fall victim to the same exact scenarios presented. This is not a gender issue - the true issue at heart here is a broken system including shamefully low wages that force workers into situations were tips are no longer a bonus but mandatory!

I don't understand how tipping is bad tho. None of my friends (who are all women) working at restaurants where they're tipped complain. They make more money than most minimum wage workers and enjoy their job. I understand there are disgusting people out there, but those bad apples shouldn't have the power to force businesses to strip their employees of a large portion of their income.

I know several Waiters and Waitresses here on Long Island, they earn 25-45 an hour in tips. Even the Seniors for the early bird special tip 20%. Where do you ladies work that it is so horrible and lacking basic respect for others? Certaintainly not here. We even have a8. 5% sales tax on top of that. Yet we still tip. Why? Because our Waiters and Waitresses give great Service.

Id be so upset if we did away with tipping. I make great money thanks to tips. Love walking out with hundreds of dollars every shift. Its how I pay my bills. It is unfortunate that as women we get touched by men while work. But I just kicked them out of bar! Good bye! Be a strong woman and tell them to GTFO!

This is not just about gender inequality, tipping is just a scandal so that owners wouldn't have to actually pay their waiters. I feel no matter what gender that tipping in general should've never existed. Before tipping was a thing, it was seen as bribery to get better service.

In my country, bartenders etc. get a fixed normal salary, and if they get tips they're just really happy cuz they have that extra money, also we say that its nice to give a tip because idk. if you have, give her/him some extra, if you dont then eh, doesnt matter.

Fun part about living near the U. S. /Canadian border is that some Canadians don't realize how important it is to tip when they visit the states. It's not expected there because their workers get paid 14. 00 an hour. please tip servers if you visit the US!
