This Joe Rogan CONTROVERSY & Backlash, Why Doctors Are Disgusted By This New Study, & More. Fake: I'm a pretty big Rogan fan. However, saying that video games are a problem and they get you nowhere is kinda of a dumb thing to say. Video games are so massively popular that you can point at anyone for an example. You can point at some loser man child who spends all day playing video games as a bad example or to a doctor who plays video games to unwind for a good example. One could say the same thing about the copious amounts of weed he smokes that will get you nowhere but he'll defend that to his dying breath because it's something he likes, and that's fine.

I disagree about video games being a waste of time mentality, but I get where he's coming from. Anything is bad in excess.
The real thing that grinded my gears is the doctor one. I have mixed feelings on it: if you have implicit biases, yes it can affect your medical diagnoses potentially. But realizing that you have biases is a powerful thing. It helps people think clearer and could also hold the doctor accountable for providing proper treatment.
However that study didn't seem to show that. I think we would need to read the study to know what it truly concluded. Was the intent to have doctors evaluate their personal biases to ensure it isn't affecting the proper treatment advice they're giving? If that was their conclusion, I would say that their study is coming from a good place, but just had poor criteria that they utilized in their study.
But I also cannot say 100% for sure without reading the study, which I think would be good to do so that it can show the author's true intent.
But ultimately, if my doctor enjoys a drink in their spare time - great. If they wear a bikini/thong or whatever - power to them for self confidence. Let them be human, so long as they aren't harming others. I do think what this revealed is that social media can be used as a weapon in some cases against people, so its best to batten down the hatches on our social media. Who are we adding as friends? Who are we letting into our profiles?

As someone who is in a relationship with an MD and happen to be friends with many of them, I have some thoughts about being professional. These people have to put up with a lot while they are at work, but they are also real people. They should be allowed to have a social life that includes as much or as little social media as they like. I think there is something to be said about making their accounts private, or harder to find. I have heard some alarming stories about the lengths some people would go to in order to harass these people or approach them in an unprofessional capacity for professional advice. But really, it s a good thing that these people have well balanced lives outside of being doctors, and that they have opinions regarding controversial topics that affect their lives and how they perform in their jobs. The one thing that would send up red flags to me would be strong opinions expressed in relation to specific cases within their practice as this would constitute a breach of doctor patient confidentiality.

Joe Rogan is not wrong about what he's saying. It IS a problem, and this is coming from someone who has been playing video games every single day for the last 31+ years, ever since I can remember playing my cousins Atari. Did it hold me back in some way? Maybe. My current position in life isn't exactly something to celebrate, but it's not that bad either (stable job, friends, etc. The thing about what he said though is that it's like an incomplete thought. He's absolutely on the right track of what he's saying, which by default doesn't mean he's wrong. It's just that his thoughts stop short of the whole picture. Human beings in general don't strive for greatness, even without video games. Someone doing exactly what he's saying about Jiujitsu is not destined to be successful. None of that though means he's wrong.

about video games, i play video games but i also read a lot when my mind allows me to. I can get to a point some moments that i dont know where i am or i might as well be in a coma during this time because i'm basically awake while asleep so the state told me im a liability to a work force. on top of that i got arthritis so while i am like this i still have to walk to the stores when i need something cause honestly i doubt they will give me a license. so if i go someplace it's either find a ride or get my cart and walk to where i need to go to pick up shit. so i think that me playing video games knowing all this is just my version of entertainment. I also read a lot and watch shows online but mostly i play video games when im not doing what i need to or blacked out

I'm listening to the doctor story and it makes me think of how teachers can be fired or not hired back for what they post on social media. There is plenty of accounts of a teacher holding an alcoholic beverage or drinking from one, post it on social media and they promptly get fired or let go due to that picture. Same thing with the bikini photos. I had an entire class session about what a teacher should not post on social media. I understand professionalism and I understand that some people have concerns about who's teaching their children but at the end of the day teachers are people too. We are in a much different culture where sharing stuff on social media means something different to this generation than older generation.

I'm not going to care if my doctor posts a picture in swimwear or while holding a glass of wine. That's none of my concern. I'm not even going to be concerned about religious statements or most political statements. What might be of my concern is if they make statements that make me think that they hold anti-black, anti-abortion, and/or anti-LGBTQ biases. Just in general having the types of views that are hostile to my existence. If I think that you're going to discriminate against me or that you won't give me the proper care for me, then I'm going to look for someone who can do better. That's where I'm going to draw the line.

Joe Rogan is right in some ways. I have 3000+ hours in League of Legends. Some of this was escapism i really needed, but some of it was dedication that would of been better spent on another hobby.
That being said I don't regret it. I think i learned a lot of lessons about teamwork, how to handle tilt/defeat, and how to grind. I can use these skills in my new hobbies and still occasionally enjoy League.
That being said League of Legends definitely has people addicted to unhealthy levels. People who will never be pro, never work in the industry, but spend 10 hours a day playing.
That exists and should be remembered

I agree with you. Video games are just a fun escape. People need to have those escapes. And as a disabled person, it sometimes acts as a window to a world I don t get to see that often, especially during a pandemic (since I have a compromised immune system. Not everything you do has to be productive lol. If it s getting in the way of your life, then it becomes a problem. But that s the case with literally everything, including exercise/training. You can seriously harm yourself if you have an exercising other dieting addiction, that s what eating disorders are. The dose makes the poison.

I wish covid case reporting focused on the amount of cases not in flat numbers but for example per million. I feel like it'd paint a much more accurate picture of how the pandemic is going in a given country. Of course the numbers in the US look, insane, but the US is HUGE, so I'd be much more interested to see comparisons between the US, individual countries, the EU as a whole etc by cases per million. Not that I'm defending the response (which I think is awful, but that's a seperate topic) or saying it's going great, I'd just prefer to get a much more clear picture of the situation.
