WOW Louis CK Controversial Redemption Tour, Trump's Google Allegations, Jake Paul, CDC Stats & More Carly Bartman: Late to the punch on this one, but I do SEO for a living. To arrive at that conclusion, she would have to check the sizes of the sites, as you mentioned, but also how many times on average per article are the outlets saying her search word, is it in the main header/page title? Are the conservative outlets or traditional newspapers using Mr. President or something similar instead of Trump? Are both using metadata and alt text in their photos, are both using photos? Do more websites cite liberal outlets than conservative, do the liberal outlets cite more sources in general? And frankly she'd have to test a wide range of keywords to ensure she was getting all the possible ways people are referring to him in their pieces. To get an accurate read on whether something is truly being suppressed in that way she'd have to have many hands on deck researching for many days, all in a clean browser with no search history logs to pull from to determine what you want. Google is comparing your personal history, the keyword you enter, and the semantic data from all data and copy in a page before serving up results. Government influence on search results has big implications on not only my job, but also on the market and the media. So I'm hoping this one blows over.

I know this is supper late. But in regards to the last story. Did anyone think about that person's individual leaning? Because as it was mentioned, most of everything you do online is recorded and used by algorithmic equations whose sole purpose is to deliver more content relevant to you, the user, in hopes to keep you on their site longer so that you consume more content. .. So if the person who made this research is leaning one way, why would they be surprized that when they make a search, google will mostly, if not entirely, provide content that reflects that individual's mindset? Like that whole story seems to miss the mark until the end, where Phill drives a major point; If you only think one sided, and that your side is correct while the other is false, that is in itself, very troubling. Obviously more so if it's coming from an empowered leader.

I work for a company that conducts SEO for businesses and their websites. All we ever do is do our best to get that particular site higher up on the search results. Theres no political bias at all. I dont know if its different in the US, as I live and work in the UK, but Id like to think the people hired to conduct SEO for these sites do their job properly and ethically. Perhaps the Conservative papers dont have good enough people working on their content or their site to keep up? Every article, every social media post, increases your online presence and gives you a better chance to bump up your SEO results. If you want to get higher on Google, you wont get anywhere by complaining. You have to make your own content to be better than someone elses. Learn as much as you can about the algorithms and use them to your advantage. Whining gets you nowhere.

I am probably wrong but to me the trump google thing boils down to simply this most media organizations call him out when he is lying and doing bad things the ones that dont are sites like brietbart which are clearly biased and not really considered legit media by most people so when you google trump you are going to get news from big news corps like cnn nbc msnbc fox etc instead of from sites like brietbart it's that simply google isn't out to get him it's just the only media that isn't considered liberal and trump bashing are smaller sites that aren't actually legit news organizations so therefore they do not come up as much i mean i much more concerned with the idea that trump calls facts fake and his supporters believe him

The google trump story hurts my brain. So a woman who claims a site she works for lost out due to an algorithm change typed 'Trump' into google news. Then looking at a chart which is just a right wing journalists opinion of where different American media sites fall she classifies the first page and when some of the biggest media outlets come up first she claims a bias. As you pointed out Google is not an index of the internet and when you search for something you are not just going to be given everything on the page. They track your searches and preferences and give you stuff they think you will be interested in this is called filter bubbling and it is a feature of Google's search engine.

When it comes to the Google filter story, I've been told that facebook, youtube, and I guess now google, are all throttling the conservative viewpoint. I haven't seen any evidence of that, hell I've seen the opposite. I'm a bit of what you'd call a centrist (in other words, a normal person) and I've been seeing conservative ADS on YouTube and facebook, simply because I watch people who are self deemed conservatives. I think it is entirely algorithmically biased and probably propogated by the free market. Why shut out half or even more of the money you can make from somebody on something so fleeting as a political standpoint?

On CK- I think its great that hes back. I know what he did, I know it was wrong. He k owns it was wrong. To say he wasnt punished I think is ridiculous, considering his career plummeted over night and his name was drug through the mud for 9 months. Idk what more people want, but I think hes served his time. Over all of the #metoo movement, which I am an advocate for, I think that the allegations over Louis are minimal. Its not like Cosby, Weinstein, or even Spacey. It was awful, it was terrible, but these are of significantly worse allegations. Thats my unpopular opinion.

Is it immoral to separate a persons skill/product with a past action? For example, I view Louis CK as a hilarious man who is also a sick dude. I support his comedy but wouldnt trust him with someone I care about. Am I supposed to protest something of quality when the producer is a terrible person? Kevin Spacey is a pedophile but he is a captivating actor (if hes acting. Can I enjoy and support Chik-fil-A because it tastes good? Why do I have to agree with someone about everything in order to appreciate an aspect of them? Thank you for your time.

I really don't think Google is surpressing conservative voices on purpose. A lot of the biggest outlets are liberal or centrist because of entertainment value or accuracy. Unfortunately, the biggest conservative outlet out there is Fox, and they're comically awful. As somebody with conservative circles, it'd be nice to have a big conservative source out there that isn't hot garbage. As a result, I end up fact checking Fox news with other outlets to the point of eventually skipping Fox news entirely.

The left-right chart is way too simplistic. For example, it lists The Atlantic as a left-leaning news source, but a huge chunk of The Atlantic's articles critical of Trump come from David Frum, one of the most prominent NeverTrump conservatives. Then again, Frum may not be as ideologically conservative to satisfy the GOP of today, being that he has no problem with gun control and universal health care (perfectly normal for a conservative if you're also Canadian. Or a British Conservative)
