A 24-YEAR-OLD who had to undergo four surgeries just to be able to smile is now embracing his differences. Austin Halls, from New Jersey, was born with Moebius syndrome, a rare condition that causes facial paralysis. Due to the condition, Austin cannot move his eyes left and right, and when he was younger, could not smile, completely close his mouth or pronounce the letters P and B. Between the ages of 10 to 18, Austin underwent four surgeries to alter his facial muscles to be able to smile. After his surgeries, Austin had to re-learn social cues to react with his face, and, according to him, it-s something he has -to consciously do now-. Despite his struggles due to his condition, Austin has become a musician, life coach, and advocate for the Moebius community - as well as representing the gay and disabled communities across social media. Austin told Truly: -Music has always been my therapy. When I have trouble expressing myself through facial expression, music is always such a powerful tool for that

I have the same situation, i was born Half of my face is paralyzed but the other half is fully functional. The doctor said that the nerves that responsible for the face movement is not full developed. So when i smile the half of my face only smiles. First i didn't notice my situation till i was 4 i started looking in the mirror and asked my mom about this and now still trying to be positive about it.

Dear Austin my name is Renetta Reno I love music too and I love to sing as well I have something to ask you when you think about rain what comes to your mind for me when it rains I hear music Like Symphony music And every time that I see a raindrop hit the ground I always think of a musical note or a letter so I feel that the rain is writing a song or a letter to use

Hi buddy! LOVE-. I have seen most of people smiling fake or not smiling at all as the world has been so unjust, mean and deceptive to either misconstrue or manipulate them for their goodness. More than that has given me a hope when I see people trying to make others smile and they feel even happier in that way. Rather BLISSFUL-

Austin, you have such an upbeat and relaxing aura about you. It makes me and many other people -feel- your smile although it can't be phyiscally seen. Also, I like your soulful singing voice. Do you have a Spotify account where we can listen to you?

After just a few moments of hearing him speak I don-t even notice the lack of facial expressions-his voice and personality are so bright and expressive that his soul really shines through. Beautiful young man with a promising future.

My ex-husband has Moebius Syndrome. He can-t move his eyes from side to side, so if he wants to read or see what-s going on around him he has to move his head, as his eyes can only focus straight ahead or up and down.

There's no torment stronger than the agony of a deformed face that makes you completely devastated and living in darkness and depression.

We all know his smile would-ve been awesome. His smile is real, it-s just he can-t smile for the outside, he can smile in the inside.

I can kind of tell when he is trying to smile I think, the corner of his mouth does move slightly (obviously due to the surgeries)
