AFTER giving birth to her baby boy, pregnancy hormones had caused some serious damage to Amanda's teeth and she required dental work. Around this time, adverts on social media were popping up on the mum's phone, encouraging her to fly to Istanbul and get a Hollywood smile makeover. She told Truly: Does it not make sense to have a full mouth of beautiful teeth? I would be pain-free, my life would be back to normal and I would be able to enjoy being a parent again? But when Amanda landed in Turkey, the treatment she experienced was nothing like what she had anticipated. She revealed: I was sold a dream and I was delivered an absolute nightmare. Enduring painful procedures and ending up with a botched smile, Amanda admitted: I was in shock, I had no idea that's what was going to happen. Back in the UK, Amanda had to shell out even more money to get her teeth corrected, undergoing a process that took 60 hours in the chair. In this episode of Shake My Beauty, we'll hear the horror that Amanda experienced and why she wants others to seriously think before they consider opting for dental tourism. She said: My message to the world is, no smile is worth dying for, no trend is worth

I despise everything dental. I've had more bad experiences with dentists than I'd care to admit. I even had a fight with a dentist while in his chair, years ago! He screamed at me and insisted I have all my old silver fillings drilled out (and I have a lot) and replaced with white composite, because the silver was toxic and unhealthy for me. Which I researched and this is FALSE! It would have cost me a fortune! I should've reported him to the NJ state Board of Dentistry! Recently, I had to have 2 molars extracted and a bone graft done - which hurt like a MoFo, and cost $3500. 00! I take good care of my teeth & gums, but periodontal disease is genetic, and I have it. I have NO trust in most dentists, I think the dental business is money driven and not regulated at all! - Also my kids went to a dentist recently who gouged me for costs for preventative measures my kids did not need. He cost me thousands and my kids were young and needed NONE of it. HEADS UP EVERYONE, do your homework before letting any dentist do anything! And tell them before your kids go in, to only do BASICS & no extra costs! Ask upfront how much they charge!

I just read it was a UK dentist messed these up. Not sure why they said Turkey! Im confused. And why aren-t there any pictures? Theres also another irish lady on here saying identical things. Maybe its a scheme to scare monger? I mean i feel for her but NEVER go to a uk dentist. They do this surgery once in a blue moon where as experienced implantologusts like these do it every day. If this was turkey it was obviously a back street surgery bcs they have the best clinics in Europe. Uk dentist are bound to slag this off bcs they want your money. Do NOT use UK surgeons. they will charge you thousands and have ano experience. That woman on the video call is just jibber jabbering what she wants to say, not facts

There's a reason -you get what you pay for- is a thing - Unfortunately, changing laws won't help or really be possible. For one, it was in a whole different country which coincides with the second reason being they have different sanitation/medical laws. Third, is it's a cosmetic procedure and a voluntary one at that.
I just suggest people do so much more research into whatever procedure, the clinic in which it will be done and ALWAYS get a second, third or even fourth opinion before committing to something on this scale.
I'm so happy they were willing to help her & that everything turned out better in the end.

I have two veneers and my dentist left me sitting to go work on someone else came back the numbing stuff wore off he started drilling not checking if I could feel anything I felt it all him drilling $2, 000 for such a terrible job I have a genetic condition that caused four of my baby teeth to not form adult teeth the two veneers cover the two baby teeth and I've been missing the other two since I had the other two baby teeth cut out at age 13 which need implants but have never been able to afford it. I'd give anything to be able to have a beautiful smile.

The amount of comments saying she did no research is way too much. You know you CAN do research and find out that medical/dentistry tourism are safe and common practices? And that all corporations/companies/businesses can lie? Dental clinics ARE businesses so- figure it out. This is actually a common practice in the UK even for people without a specific dental issue, they just want to get -perfect- teeth and they think they-ll get veneers but those are actually crowns: / You guys are here judging the lady without even doing your own research on her caseeeee

I-m so confused about what she thinks our government can do. I might be missing something but I don-t know what laws our government could put in place to prevent this? It-s people travelling abroad for cosmetic surgery so I don-t see how our laws could stop that.
I know it can be expensive and a long wait but it-s so much safer to get it done in the UK. Healthcare professionals need to be accredited and keep up that accreditation. Also god forbid anything happened, you are more protected legally

I have mixed feelings about this, as I do with every botched cosmetic surgery. I feel sorry for her that she had such a bad experience and so much pain - I don't wish that on anybody. But why oh why did you start it to begin with? Okay, so your teeth weren't the prettiest anymore after your pregnancy, but if they are still functional, then let them be. Go to your local dentist for those who really need something done and leave it at that. Society screwed you up, not your pregnancy.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. I'm still looking to go and get my teeth done. Let me explain my situation, I've had 12 gold teeth done by a British dentists at a British dental practice. I had my teeth filed down and the crowns added when I was only 15, and without consent. The cost here in the UK is ridiculous, so I'm going to get mine done, fingers crossed.
reply

Another scare mongering thing because the uk wants you use their inexperienced dentists who are not used to doing cosmetic teeth and pay their daylight robbery prices. Thousands go to Turkey with no problems and this is odd as its the second Irish lady whos been on here saying the same thing. -
reply

I couldn't imagine having my teeth shaved down. i would be horrified. I would never go to another country to do something like this. Pregnancy can do a number on your teeth because the baby is taking all your nutrients so i understand that aspect but this seemed like it was preventable.
reply

Red flag #1 they were going to include everything in one price and free flight etc! Youre teeth werent even bad! I had horrible bad teeth genetics and got dentures that now you cant even see because my fums shrunk. But theres no way id go to another country for teeth

In fact, Turkey has the best dentist and hair transplant clinics in the world. But there may be fake organizations that break the standards everywhere. You must have come across such a clinic. Please research very well about health and then make your decision.
reply

I think this isn't a fair representation of all Turkey teeth, I think most people are happy with what they get.
The problem is that they destroy your teeth so you can have nerve problems and infections and stuff and the crowns only last about 10 years.

reply

Glad she-s speaking out but I do not understand why people continue to get this done when the internet exists, research is not hard everyone knows that this type of procedure is not good. No good dentist will destroy and shave down healthy teeth.
reply

1 dollar is 27 Turkish liras. Turkey is the center of the world in terms of aesthetics. It is preferred because it is cheap. it complains when this is the result. Every place has a doctor who does it good or bad. you have come across this.
reply

So sorry for all she went through but she could have avoided it by engaging brain and doing a bit of research first. I would have my doubts on ANY cosmetic surgery from a foreign country, particularly one advertising on social media.
reply

So basically there Turkey problem is our Mexico problem here in the USA. We go to other countries for cheap pay and we get cheap, life threatening surgeries. Some of us don't come the same and some don't come back at all.
reply

She-s so lucky! I have trigeminal neuralgia and mouth work is a common cause for TN. It-s one of the worse pains in the human body and just can be hell on earth. You know it-s bad when narcotics do not help -
reply

She's from Belfast, why didn't she just have it done in the UK or USA? Sounds like she was being cheap and unfortunately she got what she paid for. And she probably ended up having to pay way more in the end.
reply

I was shocked when my dentist shaved my teeth down (although I only had three done at once. But he put temporary caps on until the real ones were made. It-s crazy you left the office without the stubs covered. -
reply

do you guys know what is going on behind the curtain in turkey-s so called health tourism! hell no! do you?
short, sharp and shock answer is.
IT IS A TOTAL CHAOS AND A REALLY NICE DEEEP QUAGMIRE.

reply

Turkey teeth. I was thinking that her natural teeth were wee small. ( As the fowl )
Never expected that she meant that she had her teeth done in the Country of Turkey -.

reply

Why would you even want unnaturally white teeth, I'm sorry but I laughed filing your teeth to that extent to fit the white dentures, her teeth still looks misallinged.
reply

Why would they title it this way & confuse us (I've seen other comments about being confused? It should be teeth FROM Turkey or international dental care or something.
reply

You guys really need to add subtitles to these videos. English is my native language but these people's accents are so thick that you can barely understand them.
reply

I swear other countries don-t care about their teeth as americans. Yes it-s nice to have beautiful teeth but very few people would care if yours aren-t perfect.
reply

This is why we have to do our home work and pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us. it was cheaper that she went in her country to get it right one time!
reply

Pay cheap pay twice, plus all this pain and trauma on the top. I rather save and have it done in my home country.
Feel so sorry for this lady.

reply

Poor thing that is so sad and heartbreaking and always always do your research research and before doing anything to your body ---
reply

She didn-t even know they would file down the teeth like crazy? My god. Please do research before doing anything to your body.
