A deadly fungus is attacking frogs skin and wiping out hundreds of species worldwide. Can anyone help California's remaining mountain yellow-legged frogs? In a last-ditch effort, scientists are trying something new: build defenses against the fungus through a kind of frog vaccine

Several years ago I visited a lake where Mountain Yellow-legged Frogs had been reintroduced after being wiped out. It was truly amazing to see hundreds of frogs on the edges of the lake and thousands of tadpoles swimming around. I have visited dozens of other lakes in the Sierra Nevada where these frogs used to be, and they are totally absent. The work being done by these biologists is tantamount to the frogs' continued existence.

What's the point of immunizing adult frogs if this immunity does not passes down to next generation? What do scientist plan? To immunize every single generation of frogs till the end of the world? Serious question, enlight me please, what is a long term point od doing that? That don't solve the problem.

seeing all the dead frogs was really heartbreaking, I'm so glad that they managed to survive this catastrophe and deep look for spreading the word. People like this are actual real life heroes to these frogs

Lol. vaccination for frogs? Welp. Bye bye frogs. These sort of things never work. Theres something else at play very likely caused by man lol. the less man does. the better for these critters lol

I dont understand if its natural cause of death. why should human interfere to save them? It happens through the natural eco system, if man interfere with it, it will affect the ecosystem right?
reply

Isnt this just futile since these frogs wont actually pass on the immunity to their offspring, so their kids will have the same issues with the fungus as the rest of the frogs?
reply

The problem is anything that eats the frogs dies from doing it. So the snakes are declining, large fish are dying and not reproducing. Way to go humans! You did it again!

If nature created a fungus to kill a species, should we interfere?
Even if that fungus was to kill many species, isn't that a part of the natural cycle?

And by doing that you forever handicap the frogs and make their extinction to that fungus more likely.
