Giant water bugs aka toe-biters pack one of the most painful bites of any insect. But they make the best dads ever. Rather than leaving the survival of his eggs to chance, dad will haul them around piggyback style for weeks, until they hatch right off his back

I think the reason these water bugs can be great dads is precisely BECAUSE they're such fearsome predators. They're very efficient and successful in hunting prey and sit quite high on the food ladder of rivers and lakes where they live, so they can afford to invest more time and energy in raising their young, ensuring more survive to pass down their genes unlike other insects lower on the food chain who just have to breed in bulk and pray. They don't have the capabilities to protect them.

I once seen a freak event of these insects where they came swarming by the thousands crawling on the grass field at a music festival. People were getting bitten or running from them. I figure the bass was doing something to them to emerge. I will never know.

One time one of these things appeared in my pool, dead, and when I took it out the dead carcass smelled so bad like rotted swamp/sewage

I remember as a little kid who was an avid bug collector, I grabbed on of these in my hand and I'll never forget the pain of that bite.

It's hard to tell what's legit anymore, it looks like someone glued a bunch of eggs to a bug's back so they can spread woke propaganda
