I once saw a building that had packed air conditioning units in the ceiling, otherwise just like these FCUs. They had water cooled condensers, which I assumed were supplied from a central cooling tower. Never before or since had I seen anything like them. I always wondered how the hum of the compressor might sound right there in the ceiling. Dont recall the size. They ran on 277 volt, obviously single phase.

With Mitsubishi Multi city heat pumps the compressor and refrigerant to water coil is inside of the unit and the refrigerant to air coil sits in the VFCU that is in the ceiling is that correct? Just trying to wrap my head around these types of systems. Does that sound right?

At around 1: 37: This fresh air is directed into the back side, the inlet, of the fan coil unit but this branch isnt usually directly connected to the unit, there is a gap between the two.
There is a reason for that, which well look at later. So why isn't it connected then?

Is there, or was there older technology in a Dual Temp System that created a blended water temperature in the plant system piping before it goes out to the FCU or UV. something like a typical kitchen faucet? Great videos. They are very helpful. Keep up the good work! Thanks

Excellent description! I have a couple of questions: (1) Would there normally be a freeze-stat or freeze control at each FCU? and (2) Is the order of the heating and cooling coils important? For example, is the heating coil always between the fan and the cooling coil?

Question! How does this system shown in this video (AHU&FCU. Differ from a CRAC unit? Or is my idea right that CRAC can use the same chiller and ahu unit as an FCU but CRAC is just used for a different type of air delivery requirement. Hope you can answer hehe. Thanks!

Does it mean AHU already condition the air once, and pass it on to the fan coil unit for the second times? It sounds pretty wasteful to condition air two times? Other than more individual control of temperature, what else is good for this system? Thanks for sharing.

now, lets say there is a setpoint for a room temparature, the air gets extra cold due to less occupants or high speed of the fan, dont we need control to ensure setpoint of the zone is achieved, the fan should be modulated in speed to ensure setpoint is achieved?

Thanks Paul! Question: is this fan coil same came which youd shown in AHU video? I am trying to understand if it is a stand alone unit or part of AHU. Essentially the location and where it fits in HVAC system.

Ah, that's what those giant box fans facing down from the ceiling at my old school's gym were
Edit: nevermind, they were just fans hooked to a boiler/condenser/chiller- they didn't have an AHU

I have a question. When I learned this part from other book, the unit AHU mentioned in your video was called PAU(Primary Air Unit) and FCU(your video) was called AHU. Is that also right?

Amazing videos I really appreciate it, just have one question why the air supply duct is not connected to the fan coil unit? I dont think this was addressed in the video just mentioned

Superb video. Thank you! One question, can you explain why the inlet air to the FCU has a open gap instead of traveling inside ductwork the entire way?

What happens when you only need cooling? Is there a two way valve shutting off the hot water supply and vice Cerda if you need heating?

How is this efficient and compared to vav video. As its heated and cooled twice once at ahu then again with fans in fcu?

Doesn't the AHU already control the temperature of the air? Doesn't temp control get redundant with the FCu in there?

Hi Guys, How's know why there is a gap between the supply duct and the FCU
Why it's not considered together?

When you said the cold water could be connected to an AC, do you mean a condensing unit? Or something else?

So what; s the purpose of the gap between the supply air to the FCU and the FCU itself; why mix the air?
