A question for Paul or anyone smarter than I. I have an obscure home heater that was never actually produced other than the initial one month run before the company went under. (a parts nightmare. It's 100% 12V via an onboard inverter with the idea that it can be run on a battery backup system.
Problem: I need to replace a 7-inch diameter pull style fan that currently runs 12V/1. 8amps. I can find many 'replacements' that offer the needed CFM but are rated at about 7 amps (Automotive cooling fans.
The trouble is that my fan is controlled by the main circuit board which offers 3 speeds with the highest being what I would assume is a full current meant for the 1. 8 amp original p. o. s. Will adding a fan with a larger amp rating fry my little circuit panel? Any insight or suggestions would be awesome. Getting COLD in Wisconsin. :)
I COULD run (and would almost prefer to run) a fan with a separate power supply and a motor speed control, but would then I would need to know how to fool the panel into thinking the original is still in place, as the board goes into some sort of safety mode when the factory fan is disconnected, which might be the easier solution.

I know how to not get shocked on low voltage. And how circuit logic would theoretically pan out. I regularly have to replace compressors for work, and other stuff like that, refurbishing certain machines. Trouble shooting the fairly basic power distribution for the AC to DC portion was really slow. Luckily last time I had trouble, I knew the Board took DC, while the other mechanical parts took the AC. So I just had to follow the paths, and make sure I knew exactly were to touch with the meter, when I flipped on the power. It was a bad transformer last time. Not the fuses. It took me an hour of running through the logic before I was confident I was correct. I was. Fun. So fun. I probably could have used this then.

Im getting ready to mount 28 X 250W solar panels on my 40 shipping container. I can build anything, plumb it and run basic electrical but have such a hard time with all this. Even 20 years ago taking Maintenance exams for work, the electrical part just doesnt set into my brain. Thank dog for the internet and mostly as of late, Engineering Mindset. Thanks.

THANK YOU! I love that you use practical things that we use in our everyday lives to explain this. I watched a few videos before this and it didn't make any sense. This video is AMAZING short and sweet but seriously helped me along a class I am taking that started randomly using AC/DC acronyms assuming I know anything about it which I do not.

I would argue that saying that DC can be converted to AC is misleading. Does it alternate? Sure. But is it a pure sine wave, no! It is simulated via steps, meaning how long a gate is activated. The more steps, the closer it resembles an pure sine wave, but it is not one.

Is it true that AC has more voltage and more powerful, DC has less voltage, less powerful. Is it possible to have DC with 230 voltage and AC 9 Voltage?

I am 35 and I never understood this concept, no matter how many times anyone tried to explain me. Until now. This is my TIL moment. Thank you!
