This is going to be a complete failure.
Reminds me of -The World- islands in Dubai, or the rest of the palms and other islands that were part of the project.
Who thought it was a good idea to build a line? If the transport system fails in one section, the whole city is split in half and becomes unconnected.
The -layered- city doesn-t make sense either, are cars supposed to be underground the whole time? How are they going to ventilate all of that without having tons of CO2 stuck in those tunnels or dirty pollution?
And how are they going to build all of it? Probably with exploited workers that are going to die, just like when the Qatar stadium was built for the FIFA World Cup.
Money is driving those arabian leaders insane with crazy city utopias or projects that are simply not achievable. They-re selling the idea, not the project.
My bet is that by 2030, either the project is abandoned or is only 1/4 of what was actually promised, while being half-assed done.

why saudi arabia 'wants to' build a new city. The reality is very different. If countries want to REALLY get serious about anything like this. They should look up the venus project. a linear city is really NOT condusive to any kind of city situation. Apple Park is actually a MUCH better example of more compact living while also integrating nature into the area. a circular structure is just better for basic travel in general. let's not be surprised that the guy the citizens of saudi call 'the father of the bullet' is cracking down on anyone trying to be negative about this project, OR trying to forcibly move people out. He knows his money from oil days are numbered so he realizes he needs tourism to balance out the saudi economy in the future so badly he thinks this is the only way to do it

Money or to much brings greed, this brings the lust for power, control and this is catalyst here regardless of whether your violating peoples human rights, whether your destroying fragile ecosystems, whether your idealistic City is next to a pristine ocean that through earth works, pollution and just your presence will suffer irepubable damage to every living creature. common sense is non existent, rape & pillage the environment in the name of money is. Mother Earth Ghia will have her revenge on you and all who destroy her, it has begun fires, floods, heatwaves, storms are increasing time for Earth is running out, change has come to late.

Looks like a hyper efficient city made for machines not humans. Who would want to live in a box with no land. Likely the top floors are more expensive, a sort of cast system will develop. The poor down low and the rich on the roof. There is no city center. Which makes things confusing. Building in totally straight lines isn't what most humans like, uneven shapes are more exciting and beautiful. I think of long 2-3 story malls, who would wants to live in one of the store front?
reply

A remarkably bad idea. For one thing, it doesn't allow for natural radiating growth, it is also an incredibly inefficient use of space and makes the city too reliant on a single train line which is liable to ground it to a halt in the event of the inevitable breakdown or power outage. Only in an authoritarian polity which brooks no dissent could such a wackadoo project even be seriously considered.

-a civilisational revolution that puts humans first. -
- In October 2022, Shadli, Ibrahim, and Ataullah al-Huwaiti, of the Howeitat tribe, were sentenced to death when they refused to vacate their village as part of the NEOM megaproject. Shadli al-Huwaiti was the brother of Abdul Rahim al-Huwaiti, who was shot dead by security forces in April 2020. -
Humans first, indeed.

1. The high-speed train cannot be very fast if there are many stations.
2. The Kai Tak Runway Redevelopment Project in Hong Kong, about 200m wide with skyscrapers on both sides, is a pilot example of the Line. Hard to avoid congestion if all people are travelling on the same route. In addition, if the only transportation route is down, the entire city will be down.

Cause they got no idea what to do will all the money they got. not like they gonna cut profits to make energy cheaper, so they just stockpile $$$ and now its easier to waste them than find a place where to hold them. And since this dumb idea will never come to life its a perfect way to remove excess capital and get something out of it in the end.

A benevolent monarchy can be the most efficient form of government in many ways. Dictators just steal the wealth of the people. Democracy wasted most of its time bickering over small details. There are always those people committed to resist any and all positive change.
It is a grandiose concept. I hope it works out.

good luck with civil, enivornmental, and social probs. wind, sandstorms, and other unintended consequences will F this dumb idea and school the 18th largest economy on Earth. looks ok on a powerpoint slide; but the reality is a S storm the world has never seen. been out there many times-you can have it. meh. tempus fugit
reply

This is the dumbest idea I've ever seen. Someone with power came up with a cool idea that has no rationale in any engineering, design, environmental considerations. It's pure bravado. Makes Dubai look like kindertgarten. Absurd. Can't wait to see the millions of dead birds, and destroyed ecosystems.
reply

Yaou can appreciate the core goal. Built cities based on need of the people not the companies.
Here in the US we built our cities around the use of vehicles, and industry, where it's hardly viable not owning a car.
I hope this concept city, although too idealistic, finds success

Awesome video, just a bit of a tip, when you start your video try not to start with -At the start of this year- because as we all know time goes on and we lose track of it. Try to say the date. Hopefully I don-t get backlash for this. But I love the videos and keep up the good work
reply

Hear me out, what if we made the line into a circle, that way you can cut in half travel times, and then in the middle of the circle you can build more buildings, and then for les industrial and urban uses you can build more buildings around the circle, Saudi Arabia hire me
reply

No idea. Does not follow '15min principle' that defines thriving, sustainable communities. Will heavily rely on public/private transport for everything - not very walkable, isn't it? Most of all - why are they not investing along the coast line?
reply

Nice presentation. Astounds me how the elites believe folks won't want to travel in the future. More folks travel outside of their cities today than ever before in history. Why do they have this compulsive need to restrict peoples lives?
reply

I-ll answer why.
1. That-s what crazy dictators do.
2. Salmon knows time is short for relying on oil.
3. Looking to do what UAE did in tourism, but ppl don-t like taking vacations to places you may lose your head. Lol

reply

Is't Saudi Arabia's linear city just like the Great Wall of China, a barrier to keep barbarians out, but in this case just stops them in their tracks with overpriced, brand-name shopping boutiques?
reply

I Hope this project success- Many cities in the world are projected and they -workout- I. e Paris, Barcelona, Brasilia- it-s XXI century and we have enough technology to build new cities
reply

I 100% guarantee that once this is built it will be abounded for some reason wen the Middle East do these mega projects they finish them then nothing happens and gets abandoned
reply

. alot of dreams of people with only fantasies. kalifa tower still dont have infrastructure. they cant keep up anything literally buncha dreams and truckloads of -yes men-
reply

Neom aka omen. Climate coinage aka change, from every living person to fund idiot projects devised by satan himself. Scwandering the wealth on the wealth none the less.
reply

Why? : they are idiotic narcissists with unlimited ressources who want to establish a dystopian big brother city for their human property and visitors
reply

i love the neom project. I would gladly move there when the project will be done. But i might be too old, it s gonna be Dubai in the meantime.
reply

they aren't building a linear city they are building a technocratic dystopian prison. the only reason why is total control over the population.
reply

Lmao Saudi love to brag about their wealth and undertakings while not producing any sort of significance result. The Jeddah Tower and now this.
reply

Interesting, but why exactly in such remote parts of Saudi Arabia? I believe you would need a plane to reach other parts of SA right?
reply

Imagine somehow heavy rainfall takes place in the linear city and it just gets filled with water and becomes the largest aquarium.
reply

The promotional material for the line does not mention who will live in the line and why would they like to live in the line.
reply

This will end up like -The World- and similar projects.
they are only created to polish up the horrible PR of Saudi Arabia.

reply

But I don't even want to live in the heat, I prefer to enjoy summer without AC. air conditioned dystopian hell for sure.
reply

Highway buses improved a lot but the city buses of Dhaka are now even worse then what they used to be back in the days.
reply

In some countries, people in power often redefine terms such as -human rights- and -democracy- to fit their ideology.
reply

But why a line? just for press? Wouldn't a circle make as much if not more sense as far as transportation goes?
