Turkey-Greece Standoff in the Mediterranean Explained
video description
1. At 2: 45, it claims that Greece has -conflicts- with Turkey over 1) the Aegean sea and 2) Cyprus. Greece has no -conflict- over the Aegean sea, and Cyprus is another country (member of EU) whose affairs with Turkey are its own affairs with Turkey. -
2. At 3: 10 the video claims that because Greece -argues for 12 nautical miles of territorial waters-, this would leave Turkey with nothing in the Aegean sea. The video of course does not mention that Turkey has already applied 12 nautical miles in the Black sea. -
3. At 3: 35, the video claims that -it is a complex dispute that ALSO CENTERS around whether or not Greece has broken international agreements-, effectively positioning the Turkish propaganda as a -core- element. A vague reference on demilitarization as per the Lausanne Treaty is used at 3: 47, and then immediately Greece is described as not complying. The video of course does not detail WHICH islands are governed by this treaty (only north Aegean, WHAT is meant by demilitarization, and WHO BROKE the treaty on WHAT passage exactly (e. g. Turkey violated the Lausanne treaty in terms of the minority rights in Instabul, and the islands Imvros & Tenedos - Should Greece take those islands because Turkey violated the treaty)-
4. At 4: 15 the video claims that there is -a disagreement- over the -status of Cyprus-. Greece has no -disagreements- over the -status- of Cyprus, Cyprus is a sovereign country, member of the EU, which has been invaded by Turkey and whose maritime borders are blatantly threatend by Turkey (just look that the EEZ zone that Turkey is claiming for the pseudostate in northern Cyprus at 6: 04, as the video informs us that -there is this area which northern Cyprus claims, and which it wants to open up for Turkish exploration, hmmmm, nice)-
5. At 6: 20, the video claims that -both countries are trying to delegitimize the other countries claims-, and proceeds with showing one -example- of this for each country. For Turkey, the video shows an -agreement- of Turkey with Libya (6: 28, and then the video falsely claims that the map at 6: 40 depicts the Greek agreement with Egypt; this is not what Greece and Egypt agreed upon, their agreement was not extending beyond Rhodes to the East, and was in fact a very narrow stripe that they agreed upon so that the rest would be agreed together with -other countries- i. e. perhaps with Turkey.

The maker of the video should have read the Lausanne convention (and this is crucial as 'officially'is is the core of the turkish arguments) and not just stationg 'arguments', the convention is NOT about the demilitarisation of Aegean islands, it is about the FRAMEWORK of militarisation of SPECIFIC (4) islands. I URGE EVERYONE to read article 13 of said Treaty, it clearly says that no naval or air base should be on those specific islands (and there is NONE) and that the Greek military presence there should be withinn a described limitation (so military presence is clearly NOT FORBIDDEN and there is NO 'demilitarisation' provision as such in the Treaty. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH WITH TURKISH PROPAGANDA, READ THE TREATY AND THEN TALK. And Turkey is not disputing on the zone only around the Greek islands near to its western coast (as the maps in the video suggest) but of ALL Greek islands including for example Krete (the big island in the south of Aegean) which is hundrends of miles aways form Turkey. Adn quite correctly the video mentions that eg the Greece-Egypt agrement is in accordance with UN Laws but omits to note that thw Turkey-Libya agreement is in accordance with NO Laws. how 'fair' is it to mention a lawful and an unlawful agreement together? Simple underlying truth is that some Turkish just want to revive the OTTOMAN EMPIRE. and as always (ie since Turks arrived in the mediterranean from the middle Asia some 10 centuries ago) Greece is the main obstacle. but guess what. we have been in this neighborhood since. FOR EVER. and we kinda like it. so we apologise but we are not moving away any time soon. - The really SAD thing is that greeks and turks have VERY good relationships on a personal level, we could and should have been very friendly neighbours and some few extremists and politicians (on BOTH countries - but that does not mean that they both sides are equally responsible for the situation) keep the tension high for their own interests. But when Agia Sophia, a symbol not only for christianity but for the civilised world, is turned into a mosque, this is simply outrageous, is shows that Turkish politicians are simply out of control. I understand though that they are eager to embrace some civilisation landmarks as being Turkish. because there are NO actual Turkish relics in the whole Tukey, ALL ancient or even old landmarks of Turkey ARE 100% NON TURKISH. it is a psychological thing I guess and a (cheap) trick for politicians to control the masses.

There are two versions of the map indeed. One, the Greek one, follows international law, while the other, the Turkish is in clear violation of it. If you notice, the Greek claims respect the equidistant rule at all times. The Turkish ones by contrast practically deny even territorial waters to islands like Rhodes and Crete.
This is not a balanced video. You neglect to mention that the Turks have a standing casus belli on Greece in the event that Greece was to extend its territorial waters to 12 nm, even in the Ionian Sea. This is not only hypocritical, as Turkey has extended its territorial waters to 12 nm in the Black Sea, but also in violation of the UN Charter which explicitly forbids threats of violence.
The simple fact of the matter is that this is no more difficult than Turkey using its size and military power to bully its smaller neighbours, which frankly is consistent with Turkish behavior in general.

In order to make this video more potent in information regarding the matter, i believe that foreign policy of both countries should be included as well as current political systems. Additionally, a link of the treaty should be included. For instance the militarisation of Greek islands suggest an agressive policy on the Greek side and although you do say about the greek claim of the need in such an act, i again believe that you could include some incidents over the years, if not possible in the video, then again in the description. Generally i believe informing videos as such should move the viewer's interest in order to investigate the matter more and coclude a personal opinion. Of course a very informing video and great work, maybe make a second video adding more information on the matter.

Erdogan is going to rebuild the old Ottoman footprint. He has stated it will be rebuilt by the end of 2023. -
He is now threatening war against Greece and is also genociding the Kurds-Medes which will bring the destruction of Iran-Persia once the Kurds-Medes join Iran-Persia. -
So, what this means is the Kurds-Medes will be forced to align with Iran-Persia. (Which is occurring now. Once this alignment occurs Turkey will attack Iran-Persia and win. This would then allow Iran to be absorbed into the new Caliphate Erdogan is forming now. (Daniel 8 is beginning. -
Ezekiel 38-39 will happen in the next 2 years as Erdogan breaks Iran and heads toward Israel by the end of 2023.

All good and nice, but when you said about the Greek-Cypriots and Turkish-Cypriots, you didnt mention that Turkey INVADED a SOVEREIGN state, a country called Cyprus back in 1974 and OCCUPIED 35% of the island. THATS why its only recognized by Turkey as a country and not by anyone else. And, the 2 ships that collided in 2020 were military ships. If you check the net for a video, i am sure you can see whet happened. The Turkish vessel turned hard right to cut off or steer away from its course the Greek vessel and the Greek vessel rammed it. Check maritime law to see whose fault that was

Well according to the UN law of sea, the Greek argument makes total sense. 12nm territorial & 200 nm EEZ. We have islands which means each island contributes the Greek border with Turkey and also contributes to Greece's EEZ. For so long Turkey has been trying to de-legitimise the Greek islands as proper borders of Greece. According to the free world (UN, EU) we are in the right and won't taking instruction from a dictatorship like Turkey. How can a countries EEZ overlap with another countries sovereign islands? This is utter non-sense

Territorial disputes? Who says that? These are turkish claims without any legal base. About Lausanne 1923 treaty can you name the articles and the islands that are supposed to be demilitarized? Furthermore according to articles 15, 16 Turkey agreed to quit from any future claims over Aegean islands. More important according article 26 -. turkey recognizes and accepts the boundaries of Greece. -(and several other states. So, where are the territorial disputes?

: ) Isn't it interesting that Greeks and Turks (only live in Anatolia) still do not aware that both of those nations are brothers and sisters genetically! And ancestors of almost 90% of today's Anatolian Turks were originally Greek and changed their religion (from Christian to Muslim) and their language (from Greek language to Turkish language) during last 500 years! Wake Up! Look at mirror! Or show must go on. :)

Greece needs to be very thankful and happy they even have an independent country. Because at one time they were conquered and were subjects to the Ottoman Empire. Greece was granted independence, until the Nazis invasion. I'm not rooting or am a fan of Turkey, but Turkey is way bigger and has a bigger military. Greece might want to be more concerned with its economy than trying to poke a war with Turkey.

You are missing a part by intention? There are rules for countering and adjecent coast's in UN agreement. In article 74 and 83 it says, part goes to International Court of Justice to share zones -equally-. Which Greece openly send its decision to not accept any decision about any kind of border issue and bassically everything that effect Greece.
