Colonization of Africa - Summary on a Map

Colonization of Africa - Summary on a Map

Let's look at a map and see a summary of the different phases of exploration, conquests and colonization of African territories by European powers, beginning from the mid-15th century Keith: Most African countries colonized by European powers experienced huge population booms as a result of Europeans developing their agriculture. Zimbabwe Rhodesia for example had their black population increase almost exponentially - first it doubled, then quadrupled within the first few decades after whites assumed leadership there. If any white legacy should now be erased, then the Africans should enforce rigid contraception and forced abortions first to bring their out of control populations to something more manageable, and then reduce them to what they were before whites arrived.

What a shame all those Africans werent just left in Africa.
The Americas would be better off and simpler with just Europeans.
Same thing with Europe itself.
And the blacks would have been happier staying in Africa.
Just remembered. The settlers killed off most of the Indians in the Americas. That was bad. But it worked out for the settlers. Countries like Australia, NZ, and Canada have a lot of natives leftover and consequently problems.

Italy didn't loose colony in Ethiopia, they were ass kicked out! Thanks to Ethiopian Emperor and well organized Ethiopian army. And again, France was also ass kicked in Algeria, thanks to the Algerian nationalism and patriotism. Unfortunately, the Europeans and the West have never learned history lessons, same situation in Vietnam, Iraq, and recently Afghanistan, all I can see is failures of use of force to impose their own ways unto other peoples.

So it's been decades since it's ended and they still haven't figured out rains, roads, electricity and bridges that they were given. It's embarrassing for Africa to still be so much behind despite the push. South Korea had less GDP then Ghana in 1950 and it had a terrible war but now makes devices with which i can comment and shame an entire continent. Be ashamed Africa, really!

Europe that invented the human trafficking now repudiate it and believe itself civilized looking down to others.
And now it wants to preach about human rights to the entire world. isn't it awkward to preach about human right after looting a continent or while still looting, while still disguising African people?
And I said to myself: What a wonderful world

It's about time that horrors of colonization are recognized. The European nations plundered Africa, India, and Americas. Now they sit pretty on their high horse of developed nations while the former colonies continue to suffer because of after affects of colonization and neocolonialism. Colonialism destroyed cultures, territories, regions, communities, and environment.

Africa is still colonise economically by the colonialist by putting condition for independence and controlling Africa trade, industries and financial institution where their reserves are are kept in Europe. Where they are charge interest when borrowing their money. Even with the most valuable resources Africa will always be poor and remain exploited the European.

Makes China look pretty good guys! Thank you. THIS shows you WHY the west gets its knickers in a twist. They THINK that China will do the same as Europe, and more recently, USA. NOPE THEY WONT. And the last 4000 years of Chinese history shows that. They trade and build. Not invade and bomb. Today, Just ask sth America, Africa, Middle East, Asia, Pacific!

Colonial Europe will pay the price if it doesnt change its behavior. Europe is full or looters and thieves. I hope new generation will apologize to African people and pay the compensations in the form of development assistance (non-profit)

What a bunch of brutal, cleptocratic bastards that makeup the heart of
modern, civilized Europe-so recently! Note the absence of the
Ottomans (a backward animal kingdom
and the Eastern Orthodox countries,
civilized by Hellenism.

This video was actually super helpful! You managed to condense the core elements of over 500 years of history into a well made and understandable video. A great jumping-off-point for learning about European colonialism.

Everyone was living primitively in Africa. Then bang. European came to exploit in the name of teaching us how to live. Who asked you guys for it. You made this earth a dustbin in the name of modernization.

interesting how two continents only separated by the Mediterranean were so different.
Europe was advanced and had civilisation. Africa hadn't even invented something as simple as the wheel.

Now I know why so many African and Arab people live in Paris! good history lesson. we never read French colonial history in school.
We only knew British May be because we are British colony.

Its sad that you didnt put the independence of Namibia in the video. Namibia gained independence from South Africa in 1994, after the apartregime was thrown out of power.

I would've loved living in this time period. Trading posts all over the world and exchanging product from India to Somalia. The Portuguese were really ahead of their time.

IN SHORT, the REALITY is that European COLONIZATION lasted for less than 100 Years. and what about the 400 Years of opression africans talk about today. its simply BS
reply

just remember that France gave the independence to 16th africain colonies, just to devote it self to the Algerian revolution
one two three viva l'algerie

reply

I was not aware that the colonization of Africa only fully ended around 1975-1980, no wonder the continent and the 'new' countries need some time to adjust.
