Hannibal Barca was a Berber warrior not a Carthaginian. Carthage is just a city built by the Berbers in ancient time and the Berbers still live in Carthage (Tunisia) to this day. Phoenicians were a small group of trader's settlers in north Africa, they were not a military nation nor a nation at all.

Carthage was Rome's greatest enemy. A blood feud war and a continuous cold war during truces/periods of peace. This was pre-Caesar, the war for the Mediterranean sea trade/travel routes. Imagine all the smaller wars/skirmishes/sea battles/etc history didn't record?
